  1. How has the project been coming since July Monkey? Always very curious about this project because you are in the local area. Can't wait to see it out at Elkhart, the Mile, or Blackhawk some weekend.
  2. This will certainly be an interesting track car once it's all said and done. Can't wait to see it!
  3. Get anything done this winter or has it been too cold to be out in the garage this fine Wisconsin winter? It reached 38 the other day!
  4. Been watching your roommates car come along in another forum for the last year. Was wondering when we'd finally see a post by you there but it appears you've gone and done it up here. Glad to finally see something on it instead of just staring when he posts picks of his ride in the garage with yours next to it.
  5. We are due snow or 60 degree weather this weekend depending on where you are at in the state - and BOTH I think in your area. Do you plan to heat your garage and keep trooping on to fight the winter blues?
  6. ^ to the above question of hatch weights in case the full and original post wasn't read or edited at some point.
  7. I haven't seen it yet so here goes: Get it in writing from the customer His expectations His expenses Get it signed off by the customer Then put in writing piece by piece Your expectations Your expenses And sign off on it Then meet somewhere in between which is reality that you can provide and that they will have to pay for put it in writing piece by piece and both of you sign off on it Any 'wants' of his beyond this down the road are authors alts and cost 25% more than your norm. Any 'needs' you have beyond this down the road to complete the project you may have to eat. And document the heck out of it and get sign offs on it at every step. Get payments as you go along. May want to arrange to hold the pink slip until completed if he doesn't want to pay as you go along. These are things I wished I had known and done when I was doing contract consulting for websites many moons ago. The work being done to this car - the man hours/expertise are just as expensive as the parts.
  8. So those big fatties are going on the track car shell eventually ... are you going for SCCA legal or some sort of drag car? I assume with 4 gigantic tires you are going for road racing ... perhaps VSCDA Group 10 as a GT1 or 2 car when you drop the LS9 in. You'd get to compete with some big horse power cars and not really have to run the risk of some Agro pushing you into a wall over .001 on a lap.
  9. So what are you doing with your other chassis? Looks like you have it stripped and in primer - or is that just a parts donor?
  10. Why does this work with everything and clutter? All my computer junk was in blue bins until I parted it out/junked it - she never complained. One day I had a pile of parts out to sort through - bang! complained. Wonder if the laundry would finally get done and put away if I put it in blue bins for her...
  11. Of the 240 GT-R Concept Great lines but there are a few points for discussion... The front under the bumper needs more cut back towards the wheels Ditch the IGAWTZRIMZDAWG! look for the wheels and put some actual racing rims on there right out of the box - Magnesium Alloy at 17 - 18" Scrap the skirts - Nancy. Audi Eyes although nice, belong on an Audi - go with something more towards the original Side mirrors - less zing and more agressive - move them forward of the A pillar to call out the original Ditch the vents and squared off fenders and doors. Round them under like the GRID concept GRID Concept: Get rid of the bubble top - it looks good but it adds unnecessary complexity to the overall production of the car. Add the height overall and call it a day. The 53' Corvette style cut-in to rear brake 'vent' - ditch it and continue on with the body line proper in a nice arc Would like to see the rear glass without the louvered look although it is quite awesome Would like to see the rear with a chop off spoiler as wide as the gate or out the edge of the body line. Both are great concepts and I really do like what they push for. We can only hope that Nissan is watching, looking, and listening to their fan base. Not to say that the current Z isn't hot in it's own right but really they need to jump into the ring of throw back styling for the Z. That it will ever happen - I doubt it
  12. Where ya at these days Monkey? it's been 2 weeks since last update
  13. There is a blasting guy I pass just outside of Fond du Lac on 151 North every time I'm heading to Elkhart Lake. I always wonder what his prices are like. "Fish?" Autobody and Sand Blasting or something like that - his sign has a Clown Fish painted on it. $300-$500 for just those few areas seems to be a heck of a lot to ask for when most of the work is already done. A friend of mine recently got a heck of a deal from a guy in Ripon getting rid of a 260z conversion. Two straight 6's, 1 v8, 2 4 speeds, 1 5 speed, 1 automatic (for the v8), a couple sets of intakes, 1 set of triple Webbers. All for under seven hundred. Sold the chassis right away with the V8 and automatic - it was too much work. Got lucky and both of the 6's were beefed up by previous owners. If you'd be interested in having a set of helping hands I would be game to swing up your way some weekend I've got free. Meet up, check the car out, drool, and continue to be envious - oh and help out any way I can!
  14. I'm losing track here of what's what... Is this a 3rd shell you've been chemical stripping? You had the brown 260, a 240... and now a yellow 260?
  15. Looking very good - your arms will certainly be tired from scraping and the shoveling that crap away for clean up! Is that white, on yellow, on red, on orange, on red? Or is that just the blending due to the chemical stripper?
  16. The bike tire must be for Blackhawk or Elkhart Father's Day weekend at Blackhawk is going to be a VSCDA event I believe - any plans on being there? I'll be there 'crewing' for a family member.
  17. Any progress on this? I see the last thing is the Clutch flywheel arrived - beyond that what's going on? Was really liking the progress but I'm going to guess that hearth, home, and employment are taking precedence
  18. Not to hijack but possibly between his shell (and overall condition) and the car down my way in Janesville (going for $400) you might have 1 or 2 complete 240z's depending on whatever you have on hand I keep checking for updates hoping to see more but realize that everyone works at their own pace. Someone be his patron and send him large sums of $ please so 88 can just work on the track car! Let me know when you take this eventual beast to Road America or Blackhawk!
  19. Could you post your template (pdf or something) for those that will be reaching this path further down the road - unless you take this to production counts... It really does look great and it's certainly one of those 'hard to find' parts. For the J bolts - does bending a hex-head work just as well?
  20. You smell gas from the front or rear of the car? From the exhaust with a lot of black at the edge of the pipe - too rich. Black plugs - again too rich (that carbon you mentioned). I don't have a Z myself but learned long ago that on any car: White plugs = too lean/hot and Black plugs = too rich/cold. You in fact don't want any fouling on the plugs at all - you'll always get a little color but they should be 'clean' looking when they come out. And that's all I remember from 2nd hand osmosis automotive 101.
