  1. Let us know what you think. I have the same 4:11 set up and need to redo the trans.
  2. Hey, that looks awesome. I'm in LA and I have been on jack stands too. It hurts to have my wife and kid laugh at me but dammit I'm gonna drive this thing one day. Keep your head up and one step at a time.
  3. Hey guys, I need someone to o rebuild a 700r4 for my 240. I was all geeked about getting the ZZ4 in my car. Got it in and tranny was no good. I purchased a rebuild kit from BowTie overdrives because I was going to do it myself. After looking at the videos and all the pieces I figure it would probably be better to have someone do it. Do any of you know someone in the Los Angeles area that works on transmissions that is good and reasonable. Like I said. I have the parts.
  4. I had the same problem with my ZZ4. Every time the wheels broke loose I would throw the belt. I went to the gator back belt and it was a little better. I finally switched to a Mach serpentine system. In the mean time keep an extra belt and a couple of wrenches in the car.
  5. Im sorry if I wasn't clear. And that is exactly what I needed for the fuel guage. Now for the rest of the car. I bought a plasticized blow up of the wireing diagram. But I wanna see the diagram of the projects you guys did. The reason I didn't go Lt1 was because of the electrical aspect. Just not my thing. I know you smart fellas might think Im cheating but why reinvent the wheel when I have hundreds of guys with a **** load of experience at my fingertips. The internet is great. By the way, I will edit the first post. Thank you
  6. I got the sbc in and running in my 72 240. Im gonna take it back out and do more work on the engine and trans. Now for the electrical. I put autometer guages. Now headlights work sometimes, dash lights work sometimes, fuel guage does not work @ all. Im looking for a basic rewire. Do any of you have a schematic of what you did? I want to get rid of all extra wires in the engine compartment and any upgrade recommendations. Also I got the recommended fuel guage but don't understand the rest of the post to make it work. Can I get a parts list and instructions to make it work.
  7. What rebuild kit did they use? Are you in So Cal or anywhere close? Do you know what upgrades they did? Any direction will help?

    My project

    Photos of my 240 project.
  9. Its been a while. Getting back to the Z now. I have a ZZ4 crate engine and a 700r4 that had been sitting in my garage for 8 years or so and put it in my 72 240. I got it all in and running. During the first few tuning runs it ran "ok". Then the next day I could not get it to go into drive or reverse. After checking the fluid level and scratching my head for a few days, I started it and it just went into gear like nothing was wrong. Now the transmission is surging. Like its going in and out of gear. I took it to a local trans shop and they said the pan was full of clutch material. The question is. Do I get another 700r4 from Bowtie Overdrives for $1500? Fix this one with better parts recommended by you knowledgable people for less? Or a different type trans all together?
  10. Its not the starter or the battery. Its the wiring. Its not carrying enough volts from the battery. When you hook up the jumpbox it gives you 13+. Thats why it starts. Its a diagram on this site or just google 73 240z starting problem. Its a diagram with a relay from the battery to the starter. Easy fix. I replaced everything too before I figured it out. Here is the site. http://www.biopatent.com/solenoid.html
  11. Ok, So I go into the garage, put it on jack stands, fire it up to see if the torque converter is spinning. The car shifts into gear like nothing was wrong. I put it on the ground and its shifting through the gears like normal. Can anyone tell me what might have been wrong? I don't wanna be out and this happen again.
  12. I went for a quick 10 min test spin the other day to work out the bugs. I pulled into the garage and made a small adjustment to a few rockers. Today I get in the car, warm it up, put it in reverse and NOTHING. It didn't move. No reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. I then jacked up the car, checked the linkage, looked for leaks, and checked the fluid level. All good. Then I disconnected the hose to the cooler (breaking the nipple off *#!@) to check if it was pumping fluid and it is. Does anyone have other ideas?
  13. The JTR kit radiator didn't have connections for the trans. I used an external cooler. I guess the question is. Do in need a radiator with a cooler in it or will be ok?
  14. It doesn't smell like anything. Maybe battery acid smell. The coolant is new as I just completed the swap. I used 30% coolant @ first but after chasing down a small coolant leak on the intake manifold its probably like 10% coolant.
