  1. I have a set of z31t axles with Driveshaft Shop shorter axle bars. Will hold alot of power. $650 shipped. Also have 39 spline companion flanges for $300 will make package deal if someone wants both.

  2. Cap and rotor are both new and no burn marks on old one. The only thing g a little bit rusty is the pickup. The car is n/a.

Regarding the rotor. Pull it off and check the bottom side in the Center. If you find burn marks, carbon tracking, or a lot of rust particles... that is a sign that the spark energy is arcing through the rotor. Rotor is toast. replace it.

Common causes of rotor arc through or Cap center button erosion are:

1: Poor quality ignition leads or leads with too high of resistance. MSD spiral core leads are good. Taylor and Accel seem to be crappola. Check the resistance of each lead with a Ohm meter. One bad lead will eventually cause the rotor to burn through.

2: Do not run too big of a Spark gap. Yes an MSD can fire a .050" to .060" Spark gap. That also places a lot of strain on other components such as Caps, Rotors and HT Leads as the spark energy level rises to the plug " Arc over " point. Keep the spark gap below .045". .040" is a nice range on Normally Aspirated Chebies.

Turbo cars are another matter. Please advise if you car is Forced Induction.

  3. Ok so I have a 1976 Datsun with a SBC in it. The ignition setup is a MSD Digital 6 Plus, MSD Blaster SS coil and MSD pro billet distributor. My issue is that I am getting spark to the cap but nothing is coming out, if i manually trigger the coil via jumping out the trigger wire while the rotor is pointing to cylinder one post the plug will fire but when I crank with everything connected I get nothing at any cylinders. I called msd and they told me the spark is grounding out inside the cap but i find that hard to believe. Have tried a new coil with no luck. When I put a plug directly to the coil wire it fires rapidly like it should so spark is going in but not coming out. Any ideas? or has this happen to anyone else? Thanks David

  5. now I'll admit I have limited experience with the , imports and z cars , having only helped on a few , maybe a dozen v8 conversions and generally build big block muscle cars , like GTO,camaros novas ,corvettes, and street rods like t-buckets and vegas with big block engines, but Ive certainly shredded my share of  10 bolt, and 12 bolt chevy and a few 9" ford differentials in the process and learned what parts hold up as a result. Ive darn sure shredded my share of corvette IRS differentials and half shafts, so any serious race car I build has a dana 60 rear differential custom fitted

Thanks for the info. Although I do not want to go with a solid axle it might be my only choice if i break these 39 spline. Or possibly a custom shaft with different wheel bearing.

  6. Well got ahold of Joe at chequred flag racing. Went ahead and bought some 39 spline axles from him. But the nice guy he is he is sending me a loner axle 27 spline for the time being until I get the 39 spline very nice guy to deal with! I just hope these 39 spline stub axles last! I think my next weak link is the inboard side of the cv axle where it goes into the diff.

  7. That sucks. As we saw with the shortened axle shafts from M2 differentials, not all heat treating is the same (?). That is a clean break, while my inner CV shaft broke following the course of a spiral crack. I sure hope you just got an axle stub that was improperly heat treated... I am willing to replace a pile of Z31T CV axles, but on the day after I snap my Chequered Flag 39-spline stubs, I will be looking for a 9-inch solid axle. I draw the line there-I've spent and re-spent on stub axles 3 times. Thats my limit. How many splines were your stubs?

Mine were the 26 spline. Looking to possibly go with white head performance 39 spline has anyone dealer with them? Emailed him back and forth seems like a nice guy.
