Love the feedback. I posted fairly regularly on this site several years ago, but then life got busy didn't have time for cars. However, I love the community here and the willingness to help another member out. My update. I talked for an hour to a interstate title specialist from the Secretary of states office in Michigan. After a bunch of analysis of law and title talk, she simply asked me where I went to college. She then reminded me that most college students spend anywhere from 4-6 years living out of state with out of state plates. They also tend to be horrific drivers. Point being, I should maintain my license and registration in Michigan, and then not drive like an *******. Another fairly simple excuse she offered up was that my job requires me to spend months at a time in California, but that I maintain residency in Michigan. Then every year I should try to be one of those lucky 500 cars, or cross my fingers and hope the law gets fixed. So I feel much more at ease. It's not tough to maintain an address in Michigan, which I suppose makes me one of the lucky ones. I do think it would be awesome to have a section/sticky on emissions requirements for the different states, and ways to pass the specific tests. Lets try to keep as many of our cars on the road.

I'm 99% sure that I am going to be the owner of a 78 280 with a l28et and 3 inch exhaust....no cat to my knowledge. Currently I live in Michigan, where we don't care what goes into the air. But, I may have to move to San Fransisco around may. Being that they changed the law again, unless I can get one of the first 500 registered custom car titles handed out every year, my car will have to be registered as a 1978 thereby making it subject to emissions testing. Does a l28et with 440's and 3in exhaust and no cat have any remote possibility to pass that test????? I'm sure the biggest thing is getting the afr correct, but without a cat i dunno? Also, are there any cali guys out there that know a way around this? Could I register the car as a custom car in Michigan, and then have the title transfer over as a custom built car in California? I really don't want to have something as dumb as emmsions keep me from owning my dream car.... HELP!!!!

I think this is an awesome idea. You could have it broken down into the same categories we have now, 4cy,6cy,8cy, other, with various sub sections. Then organize the current stickies as wiki pages. It would basically make a how to for different builds and different modifications using example work from people's builds throughout the years. How cool would it be to have a walk-through on how to make any modification that has been done on this site. Awesome. Now just convince people to do it....thats a ton of time.

Hey guys, In my spare time I operate a small recording studio, and with so many technology changes over short periods of time I end up buying and selling gear online all the time. In the last six months it seems every online posting I make for equipment for sale gets responses from scam artists. One of my favorite things about being a member of this site is that there is a definite sense of community, and people know each other a little better than other forums with hot shots bragging about their new neon interior lights and splash graphic stickers on their gigantic spoiler(good for an easy 50 hp). Anyhow, This is a good article I found that fits with the scam I get offered up pretty regularly. Hopefully, it doesn't show up in our classifieds section, but if it does at least we should be aware of it. here is the link: http://www.used-car-advisor.com/car-buyer-scam.htm Happy building, driving, racing, and spending, spending, spending.

Think this would help or hender? performance?

I've seen intakes set up like that before. The benefit gained from the colder air outweighs the length of the pipe. I wouldn't worry about it. -
Why do I get the feeling, that with all those forged parts sitting in your truck, "Accidentally" blowing your engine might have happened on purpose. haha.

there are a couple people that have tried this route, one who almost marketed it as a kit, there is just limited demand for such a kit. If you do a search you will find lots of info about what and how you need to mkae this dream happen. Consider budget. You must have a lot of money if you are considereing fabbing up your own design, manifold, the charger itself, injectors, a rebuild w/new pistons, etc. this is a big project. I would ask yourself, What are my speed goals, how much do i have to spend, do I want to be unique and faster, or just faster, and do I have the means to do this? If you can get through those q's and you still wana do the charger, this forum will support you all the way on you conquest, if not, read up, people have done it all here. Good Luck.

I looked into this for a while. its a fun little engine if it is built properly. There have been problems with crank walk when you get around 325hp but its avoidable by getting forged internals. Otherwise, about the the trans, mighty max is all you got for a straight bolt on. There is a guy who matted a 4863t to a toyota five speed and put it in a rock crawler out west, and there is info out there that provides info that would could lead to you places that have made bellhousing adapters for such a swap. If patience, time and money, anrent an issue, Id love to see this swap done. Here is a link to that guys swap in the rock crawler. http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73227&highlight=RWD+4G63

WRX engines are fun and 300 out of the box is nice, but,,,,they start to fall apart at 375, unless your really careful. meaning your gonna have to buy an expensive engine and completely rebuild it with stronger parts becuase we all have boost addictions and will never be satisified without adding one more psi. Which I know would be a shortside for me. Otherqwise, what would you do about trans options. the car is wider and shorter and there isnt a tranny i know thats only rwd. Maybe im wrong. Maybe you could adapt another trans to work. But the awd setup would require rediculous fabrication, and budget. But, if you could get around those obsticles it would be pretty cool. I would be jealous for sure.

My buddy has a modded 4.0 sahara. The thing is an animal from 0-60 but thats about it. He is also running 4.10 gears, and jeeps are bricks with wheels. But still, I cant see a jeep I6 in a z being worth the cost to do it. But thats my opinion, I think it would be creative to see built, and interesting to ride in. I dont think anyone's done it, its bound to happen sometime.

Go to the turbo section under engine componets and read the turbo faq sticky at the top of the forum. This will give you alot of info if you are going in the turbo route. Also do a search, there is a ton of valuable information. The stock turbo was a t3 and the engine puts out around 180hp and 200lbs of torque. Welcome to the page, always search before you ask, its most likly been covered before. Good luck with the swap.

Pics and info on my lightened stroker pistons.
Dnaught14 replied to 1 fast z's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
looks cool, i'll be curious to see what it does for the performance of the engine. When you crunch out all the numbers your losing 1.73 total pounds of piston which is .28 pounds per piston. Looks cool. Hope they have some durability, that would be cool. -
Yes and no. Its the kind of thing where you are upping your displacement by very few cc's. With the maybe 100cc's gained your talking about less than a 15hp gain. I think the regular l28 setup is about 2780 (estimate) and if you change the crank and rods it puts you at about 2850 (estimate). Do a search, someone on this site has a displacment calculator with tons of potential combinations that you can select rods, pistons, blocks, cam, etc.. Regardless, if you are going to take your whole engine apart to get a little bit more displacment you might as well get it bored out and go all the way to 3.0 or 3.1. But thats my oppinion, so take it as a grain of salt.

do a search. there is tons of info on this site.
