  2. With the Engine and Transmission on their mounts I was suprised that ti didn't protrude lower under the car.
  3. Removal of the L6 and installation of the SBC
  4. I am using ported stock heads, desktop dyno shows this combination is worth 286HP @ 6000 and 280TQ @ 4500. The idea was to have a peppy vehicle with driving characteristics simular to the L6. My cruise RPM at 70 MPH will be around 2600 and at the low end of my torque band. I didnt follow the standard 350-383 mindset because I wanted to do more than just smoke the tires, I will be in the area of 10 lbs per horsepower which is plenty.
  5. I was concerned about getting too large of a Cam for the engine so I wrote to Crane with the car specs, (Weight, tire size, rear axle ratio, transmission) and the Cam I was looking at. I was trying to recreate the performance level of one of the 270hp 283s from the early 60's Corvettes. To my suprise this was the Cam recomendation they gave me. (It was larger than my original selection) Looking back maybe I should have gone with my instincts. Oh well it should be a lot of fun to drive, I still need to mount my radiator and finish the exhaust before I can start it.
  6. I have a 99 Suburban with the same engine, the lifter noise is common and the oil change suggestion works wonders. As for the manifold leak, it's like changing an intake manifold gasket on any other chevy v8 except you have more crap in the way between you and the manifold bolts. Go for it you'll do just fine!
  7. What problems are you having with the 2200 stall converter? Does the car stumble on acceleration?
  8. 9. Thanks I ran across another zx today and after operating a few systems it is for the A/C and heater vacume system. Thanks again to all, for the great assistance.
  10. I appologise but I was unable to post a picture of this, it is a small round canister about 4 inches in diameter and is mounted forward of the R/H strut and aft of the charcoal canister. It has 2 small vacume lines and 4 wires attached to it, the vacume lines are common to the cruise control but it is not part of the cruise control system. I have not found this in the nissan parts cd and it does not seem to be inb the electrical schematics. Any assistance on identifying this part or how to load this darn jpg would be appreciated. Jim
  11. I like your side pipes, if you don't mind me asking what brand are they and where did you get them? Nice job on your zx. Jim
  12. You do have a location issue, I imagine SBC engines don't grow on trees on your side of the world, given your situation and location $400 probuly isn't that bad. I would recomend seeing if the seller will let you pull the heads and look for any signs of internal damage prior to purchase. Good luck.
  13. Don't waste your money on an unknown you can get a rebuildable core engine, don't get caught up in the "it's here and I an see it" especially if you don't know it's history. If you are looking for an engine to take to the machine shop to be prepped for your rebuild, $400 is way too much. I did some careful searching on ebay and picked my engine up for $100, and after I opened it up and measureed the cylinders it was still at stock tolerance. A little patience will save you a lot of cash.
  14. I think he's got the gear ratio wrong, I have never heard of a turbo z coming with a 4.56 rear ratio? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-DATSUN-280ZX-TURBO-THIRD-3RD-MEMBER-DIFFERENTIAL_W0QQitemZ7994147203QQcategoryZ33731QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. I have searched but with no luck, anyway I aquired a KPH speedo for my 79 280zx, 180KPH, I know the Datsun speedometer cable turns 1024 revolutions per mile, and would assume the KPH speedo would turn 1024 revolutions per kilometer. If this is true, and if I can gear the 700R4 speedometer drive to turn the cable at 635 revolutions per kilometer then the KPH markings on the face of the speedo would actually be reading MPH. 635 revolutions per Kilometer = 1024 revolutions per mile As 1 KPH = 0.62 MPH. Any thoughts? Jimszx
