  1. Hi I have been gathering all the componants to convert my 79 280zx, I am close to starting the actual conversion. Are there any of you out there who have done a zx conversion who are close to San Antonio Texas? I would like to look at a converted vehicle to be sure I have not forgotten anything. Thanks Jim
  2. The list # on my carburetor is 6160-1 and according to the Holley tech website it was origianally used on 1972 chrysler 440's. Unfortunately when they figured out I wanted information to improve my Carb as oposed to buying a new one the information well dried up.
  3. I was given a holley 1460 carburetor (the price was right) I have a moderately built SBC that will mate to a 700R4 to go into my 79 zx. Having limited experience with holley carbs, this one is 600 cfm with vacume secondaries, it has # 55 main jets, and secondary spring is the plain (non-colored) oem spring. Will this be a good starting point for my combination? The engine is set up for a 6500 rpm redline. What do you think bigger jets? faster spring? Jim

  6. I know this isn't a Chevy question but the users of this forum are the friendlyist and always seem willing to offer an opinion. My 79 280zx is stock I haven't collected all the pieces needed for my V8Z conversion. My L28 engine has high milage 204000+ and has had good oil pressure for as long as I have owned it. But today on the way home from work I noticed that when I stopped at a light my oil pressure gage dropped to almost nothing. As I accelerated away from the light at about 2000 rpm the pressure came back up to normal. This continued all the way home. I am guessing my oil pump may be going out. Any ideas on thos problem? How much longer will the original engine last?

  8. Hello, I was going through the PAW catalog the other day and noticed the Edelbrock fuel injection setup for SBC. It appears to be a standard manifold with fuel injectors installed over the intake ports, fuel rails, a throttle body to control air flow and a computer. All for approximately $1400. Here'e where my screwed up brain kicks in. What's to keep a person from taking an aftermarket manifold, installing a throttle body, drilling and installing 8 fuel injectors from say an SVO Ford, using homemade fuel rails, the existing Datsun fuel injection pump and fuel lines. And controling it all with a Megasquirt? So am I crazy or just having dangerous thoughts?
  9. Thanks, the car had performance struts and springs on it when I bought it. ansd it sets about 1" lower than stock. It has 215-60-14 tires on it which are about an inch smaller than stock as well. Is this part of the problem?
  10. My 280zx is the first car I have ever had with IRS and it has a noticable squat durring acceleration. It is still stock, but I am planning a V8 conversion. My concern is with the added power of the V8, will this cause the z to squat to the point of rubbing the rear tires? I have read through the archives but hav'nt found and answer to this. I would appreciate any info you have to share. Thanks
  11. I know that fuel injection will give better econemy, but I don't think it will be in my price range initially. I am in the planning stage right now but I am looking at a mild 350 with a 700R4 transmission, my car currently has an R200 rear with 3.9 gears. Anyone who is running a carb set up I am curious about what kind of MPG to expect. Thanks
  12. My 79 280zx has a curious problem, when the key is installed in the ignition the parking light circuit is energized and all exterior lights except the headlights come on. Has anyone had a simular problem?
