  1. Some are having o k luck with them . I put one in and it scattered second gear while testing driveline angles . I made no hard launches or speed shifts. I did however do some shifting at 6500 rpm Getting hard on the gas after the shift. This was a brand new T-5 for a Z-28 . Had never been installed in a car. I do have 415 pound feet at 4800 and 360 HP at the rear wheels at 6000 rpm. Good Luck, Dennis YMMV
  2. Hey Mike, Thanks for the National Drivetrain heads up. They know what trans I have and I am ordering the parts.Found this trans was used mostly in pick-ups and vans to help with gas milage. this trans is much stronger than the T-5 I had, and still has a .73 overdrive. Thanks Again, Dennis
  3. Thanks for the reply, I needed to be more clear in my description. This is an Overdrive trans built by New Process (MOPAR ) with a chevy bolt pattern and input and output shafts. To order internal parts the dealer needs to have a model of car that it could have been used in. They have tried to look it up under tranmissions, but thier books don't list that way. Dennis
  4. Hey Grumpy , I have a chevy trans that was made by New Process in the late 70s. It has a 3.09/1 1.62/1 1/1 and .73 to one as the ratio in a four speed box. My trans has a noise in second gear and when I call a Chevy dealer they ask what car it came from. Since I bought it at a swap meet I am at a loss as to it's original use. Do you know of a web site that would show options like this and what models they were available in ? Thanks, Dennis AKA V8ZED
  5. Hey SCCA, Paypal gets you the money but it is up to me to say THANKS for taking the time to arrange the group purchase. I don't think I would have purchased a Phantom Grip by myself as I am a doubter of advertising claims. thanks Again, Dennis
  6. Brand new world class V6 T5 from camero 1989 vintage lasted two days of testing for driveline vibration. Did not like 400 pound feet of torque . Did not speed shift or drop clutch. just put it in gear started rolling ,and stepped on it. Wasted 900.00 buying this new. A modified v8 t5 may take the power but I would sya stay away from the v6 t5 if you are producing over 230 lb.ft Dennis
  7. big space to rear. good luck, Dennis
  8. Hey , You need a double flairing tool to do brake lines. Most plumbing tools are a single flair. Craftsman has a double flair tool for about $40.00 that will do the job. It is wise to practice on a few scrap pieces of line before doing the on on the car so you don't have to shorten on up due to a mistake. These things take a bit of patience to work with. Good Luck Dennis
  9. z350 is right if you use a drop base air cleaner. I had one on at first but it only gave me 1 inch between the carb and the top cover and I felt the air was not flowing in as smoothly as I wanted. I changed to a 10 inch K&N 3 inches tall and added a cowl induction scoop. So much for the sleeper look! Dennis
  10. Yes I use the victor jr. with the extra tall plenum and a stock hood with a 2 inch cowl induction scoop I can just get it closed. It will NOT work without cutting the hood. The standard victor jr. will work with a stock hood and the JTR motor position. Dennis
  11. Hey Jwelch, It is normal for the wheels to spin with the trans in park as long as they are off the ground. Your ring and pinion are locked but your spider gears allow the rotation. Dennis V8zed

I didn't get very good take off's so I"m gonna look at trying to get some slicks. But it feels like I have no power. I'm thinking i'm starving my engine of fuel. Here is my engine combo: Edelbrock 600 cfm carb Victor jr intake Holley system max heads ......Intake - 2.02" dia.,4.92" length, 11/32" stem dia. 66 cc combutstion chamber ......Exhaust - 1.60" dia., 4.94" length, 11/32" stem dia. Comp. Magnum 270 Cam. 224 dur int 224 dur exh lift 470 int 470 exh Stock HEI Distributer Anyway what I"m saying I guess is 1)am I starving the engine? 2)if yes what size carb should I get 750? 3)any pointers on tuning it or just go to a shop. Thanks for all the info. The track is open next week too since we are haveing such nice weather so I wanna take it there again so that way I don't have such a bad thought On it over the whole winter. Sean Hey Sean, what do your plugs look like? sounds like a 600 should feed your combo . What timing are you running? Do you get wheel spin in first and second gear? What trans and diff are you using? Were your times consistant ? Dennis
  13. Hey Guys, Thanks for the info. I upped the timing to 16 deg and it helped a lot . I will now work with the power valve as I know my vacuum is a little lower than stock even with the 114 lda .Great to have this forum. Yhanks Again, Dennis
  14. Hey Guys, I am having a problem seting the timing on a 355ci. Cam is 256 dg at .50 .485 lift on intake and .513 on exhaust. 30 thousanths clearance on both . It is a cam from a 69 Z28 with a 302 .Carb is Holly 750 single shooter on a Victor Jr. Compression is approx 10.5 to 1 . Significant lag and sometimes small hicup when punching loud peddle from low rpm. Runs like stink from 3000 to 6800 . Idles at 1000 and no lower. Any ideas will be appreciated . Thanks, Dennis
  15. Hey Guys, I remember reading a post in which someone was unhappy with World Products Torquer heads . Can't find the post now to ask why . Any opinions out there ? Thanks in advance, Dennis v8zed http://communities.msn.com/ZCarFamilyFun
  16. Hey Guys, I have a 71 and 72 240 and both have the right front wheel about 3/8 of an inch ahead of the left. My right front tire just touches my air dam and the left clears it by 1/4 inch or more.I have measured both cars from several points on the body and they are the same . anyone have any idea what the reason is for this. Neither of these cars has been wrecked . Thanks, Dennis http://comunities.msn.com/ZCarFamilyFun/

My friend's shop has had TONS of guys bring in cars that have done this. The fluid passages are too small to allow the fluid to circulate if you go with a regular gear oil. RedLine is what I found worked best for me. YMMV... Thanks for the info guys . I hear the T-5 needs all the help it can get to live behind a 350 . Could be a good oil may make the difference.. 18. IS it better to use Redline oil or just dino auto trans oil in a T-5 for the best longevity ?

    HELP (differential)

The mustache bar is spring steel and very hard to drill and if memory serves the mounting holes are slightly raised in the 200 bar. Best to get the correct bar . Dennis

I could still buy the engine and be ahead of the game but I want to rebuild it because I will learn so much from it keep your eyes open you will find lots of engines for under 1000 bucks you might need to rebuild them but even if you have a shop do it it wont be much over 1000 bucks also you will have parts you want in the engine Jeff Hey Guys, Make a list of what you want done ,and what you need done . They may not always be the same . My partial list: line hone $75.00 Bore with torque plates $150.00 Balance reciprocating assembly $150.00 Hot tank and mike block $45.00 High silicon pistons $130.00 Check and resize rods $48.00 3 angle valve job with new guides $125.00 Gasket set $50.00 New oil pump $50.00 Water pump $45.00 4 barrel carb and manifold $200.00 used Kit for Edelbrock $35.00 As you can see without a plan the costs can quickly escalate . As always Your Mileage May Vary Dennis

Yes, I'll have to do some work, but as far as I'm concerned, work can be an effective substitute for money. I bought a running 350 from a neighbor and decided to ( freshen it up ) a bit . $1600.00 later, it is fresh and my wallet is flat ,and this was with me doing all the assembly and porting work. Could have purchased a Goodwrench 350 horse 350 ci. for about $2500, but would have missed all the fun . See it now at http://communities.msn.com/ZCarFamilyFun/ Dennis,IZCC 1390 71 570Z

But I've never heard of anyone coming across one. Is there one out there??? Rick [This message has been edited by Fast Frog (edited December 03, 2000).] Thanks to you both for the help . The main reason I wanted a site that had charts was that my T-5 seems to have some SERIOUS ratio differences. By counting revolutions between the input shaft and the tail shaft I have come up with the following : 1st gear 3.9 to 1 2nd gear 2.2 to 1 3rd gear 1.5 to 1 4th gear 1.0 to 1 5th gear .75 to 1 This trans must be for some thing other than a camero , maybe a pickup with that steep first gear . this makes me wonder what torque it may be rated for . 23. Hey guys, I am looking for a page that will list the ratios of the BW T-5 . Tried the B W site but they no longer have any tranny info . Thanks Dennis 71 570 getting upgrades
