  1. Wire under the dash on the right side was split in two pieces. Rewired that and it started with no effort at all. in fact it was really funny , i barely had the ignition switch turned and it fired..it idles alost as smoothly as before I took the fuel rail apart and re hosed it..but now when you give it the gas its really rough..in fact there was one slight backfire..just letting it idle at this point..any suggestions or ideas..

Thanks guys as always for the help ..darned glad I didnt just buy a fuel pump when all it apparaently is was a wire that was split.

  2. Thanks , will do and thanks guys for the helpful info..am going to ck everything real well before I go the replacement route..seems to me that if it was working ok prior to putting all the hoses on it that just due to sitting for six weeks wouldnt have messed it up..thinking of corrosion..the car did sit out in some rainy weather..considering that the car is a daily driver , up until the fuel hose deal and now this , that would in my mind have kept things possibly dryer than sitting out then just air drying without any air flow under the car as would be the case when driving..probably reaching way out there on that one but ckng the electricals etc makes more sence than just throwing on a new one when a new one might not be needed..thanks again .

  3. Thanks will ck out the relays etc..was going to do that as well ..seemed odd that it just suddenly "quit"..will ck the electrical and thanks for the pics and info on AutoZone..my son has a good friend who is a mgr at a location close by will talk to him about it as well..who knows might get a little discount ..but again thanks for all the info.

  4. Does anyone know of another fuel pump that will work on a 77 Z..mine apparently is gone..dont have 200.00 + for a new one..will anything else fit as well as work..thats less expensive..

Just redid all the hoses on the fuel rail as well as the ones to the injectors..in fact all hoses from top to bottom, vaccum lines , fuel lines , radiator, heater..you name it I replaced them

The car has been sitting for approx 6 weeks , when I am trying to start it I dont hear the fuel pump coming on..it used to run when you shut the motor off as well as you could hear it when you started the car..now nothing ..the car tries to fire..there is fuel in the lines , dont know if thats the return line or the line coming in but no noise at all from the fuel pump..

Help...like I said right now I need something less expensive than 200.00..any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

And yes there is a brand new battery in the car as well..so its got enough amps to activate the pump..or I would think so..

    Help.....

    and thanks

  5. Say what you want but Rhinolining does not belong on a Z car..anywhere at all ..you wanna use Rhino..buy a truck..that is one of the most disgraceful things I have ever seen done to a Z car..totally took it out of character Hybird or not..it just does not belong on a sports car..sorry..but thats just my opinion.

  6. Do like I did on my 78, pulled the bumper had an air dam put on , cleared the ground by 2 inches, never had a problem at all, of course you have to be very careful when pulling into parking spaces with the concrete bumpers or high sidewalks etc. but it looked so cool , really gave it a race look.

Now getting ready to do the same to a 77 that I purchased due to being an idiot and selling the 78 a few years ago, had to buy another one , couldnt live without a Z car in the garage.

  7. Could it be a worn brake shoe thts not disengaging properly?

Had a brake job on the car about 200 miles ago, front pads and rear shoes, think Im gonna take it back to the guy who did the brake job for one, but if that were the case wouldnt it still do it regardless of the clutch being engaged or not. Im thinking also the diff needs cleaned out and put in Lucas gear oil to see if that does anything , the noise just came out of nowhere, not there one day , then started the next

Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it.

  8. Here is the deal. When I engage the clutch, press the acelerator and begin moving there is a squeek that sounds like its coming from the left rear wheel. Let off the gas and coast the squeek goes away, give it gas and as the wheel rotates you hear the squeek. So its only when the I give it gas do I hear the noise.

Engage clutch, move , noise, coast, no noise.

I cant coast all over town either so that eliminates that idea..

Anyone have an idea , is it in the wheel or the drive shaft or the differential possibly.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  9. My problem is that everyone who sees my Z likes the gold color that it currently is, everyone except me, granted its a soft gold with black interior , blacked out windows , chrome rims, but while it does look somewhat nice I suppose, I would like something that jumps out as well as something that will look good with white dual racing stripes.

I plan on pulling the bumpers, adding an air dam as well as rolling the rear , adding a spoiler, not sure if the BRE or a wing as I have a wing in mind that I think is going to look pretty sharp, the exhaust exits from a dual header just in front of the rear wheels, chrome block like tips that are approx 9 in and rectangular in shape, 215-50-15s but as far as the color right now Im not satisfied with the gold ( champagne) , every so often it looks pretty good to me but Im just not totally sold on it.

Red seems to be out , but every so often I think I might like it Ferrari Red , then Chevy makes a LeMans Blue for the Vettes that is nice and would look good with white stripes, the BMW gray in the pics above is nice as well, yellow enters the picture from time to time, not too wild about a two tone , man this is a hard decision to make, like I said from time to time the champagne looks pretty sweet , but it just seems like the car needs something.

    HELP

  10. Does the MSA kit go on so that the rear of the car looks as it does in the ad or does it need a bunch of work , the front I would suppose could or would be less of a problem , its the back that I am concerned about.

On the other hand how good does this look or would someone be better off just having a body shop fiberglass the rear so that it has the rolled look to it..

I have seen some done like that which look great, just wondering how good the MSA kit really looks in person,,in an ad anything can be made to look good ...has anyone seen one on a Z

    Thanks

  11. Ah I think that the ones that are approx 2200.00 are a little more than I am looking for....but I do appreciate the information. The big deal or what I think might be a big deal is finding a 4 lug setup as the rims that I have on my car I want to keep using. I just want something that not only looks good but is very effective as I to dont like fooling around with the breaking system on any of my cars..they are far too important to not take seriously. The idea about the 350 brakes was really that I liked the way they look, but I also want to change not only the brakes but the struts as well as springs. I know most of that is hidden but again its a safety issue as well ..would just feel better changing the entire setup...

Thanks guys for the info that you have given me so far.

  12. I really feel for you guys in Cali with all the smog requirements. I know its supposed to be for the envrionment and all that jazz but here in SC we do not have state inspections any longer, too many shops were just slapping a sticker on the car as well as complaining that they were not getting a high enough fee for inspections to begin with, so the legislature withdrew the requirement that vehicles be inspected...net result ..many of us run without any smog devices as well as had the converters taken off as well...sure make a difference in performance...

  13. Thankfully.....I was reall getting a good laugh reading this...there is no way to confuse any 78 and earlier model Z with anything built that was supposedly a Z from 79 into the 80's ...Datsun/Nissan took a great car and just about totally ruined it...well in fact they did ruin it..not until the 90's did the car have any type of design as well as style, I have seen Chrysler make some great and grave mistakes but not quite as bad as what Nissan did when they began to totally screw up the Z car beginning in 1979...
