  1. If that is the actual unit that you won off of eBay, it looks immaculate! Lucky man! I think that I would drive and get it to ensure that nothing happens to it in transit...and because I'm a cheapass

    Thanks 240Z2NV.

It is the actual unit that I am getting. As you might of guessed, I am very pleased on the condition.

I think I might drive down there to get it, just to be sure.

  2. Man, that's a STEAL! But, what is shipping going to set you back, those Beasts are HEAVY?! You'll need to source a driveshaft from that model and use that section for your input, mated to the output flange for your particular engine.

Lucky for me he is only a few hours away, so even if shipping is too costly, I could always just go and get it myself.

I think I am off to a good start with money and doing the swap. Although I don't think I would break a R200 vlsd, its always nice to have alittle more just to be sure.

    For a driveshaft flange for the R230' date=' http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=93863&page=2

I called and spoke with Powertrain Industries and you can buy the adaptor from him or have your local driveshaft guy buy it from him when you get your driveshaft built.

That is too cool. I am already using the JTR adapter for the stock R200 (one-legger) already under the car and it uses Dana 1310 u-joints too.

Its too bad I'll have to have another driveshaft made, but I think it will be well worth it to have the R230 vlsd.

  3. My understanding is that the ZXTT's have a VLSD R230 rear(shared with the Q45). The non-turbo 90+ ZX's have an R200. Whether or not it is LSD, I don't know. That is the rear I have been thinking you guys have been talking about. I'm going with the R230 on my own car, I'm bringing big HP and Torque, so the extra beef is needed.

Although I can't confirm the Q45 part, everything else is exactly what I have learned as well.

    -R200 vlsd for N/A '90-'96 300zx 4.09 gear ratio

    -R230 vlsd for TT '90-'96 300zx(tt) 3.69 gear ratio

    Everything sound correct?

  4. This is turning out to be great thread. Especially since I just won a 300zxtt R230 rear off ebay with a pair of stock halfshafts for $100. I think I did okay??

Just gotta source one more pair and then comes the fun part of installing it.

What are you guys doing about the CV type driveshaft input?

    Thanks.

  5. That page has a bunch of good pictures' date=' but the rear he's using is a Q45 R200, not an R230 from a 300ZXTT.

    Jody[/quote']

I wonder how much diiferent the swap is?

    I have a question about '90-'96 300zx non-turbo R200's.

I know the output flanges on a turbo model have 6 bolt holes.

Do the R200's from the N/A models have a 5 or 6 bolt output flange?

    Thanks.

  6.

I thought I read that someone flipped the mustache bar to push the rear forward' date=' but that seems to me to be too extreme to keep the axles lined up properly.

The next issue is the transverse link contacts the axle flange. I mentioned in an earlier post http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=96702 that the R230 is wider than the Q45 rear. This may be another issue of the wider flange spacing. It's hard to see in this picture, but even with the rear pushed forward 1/2" the flange touches the TL.

I think that maybe the end of the TL can be ground to clear, but it is TIGHT. I did not bolt up the TL tight, because it won't clear as it is. I still have to deal with the CV flange width added to whatever clearance issue that exists too.

I can bolt the mustache bar tight and begin spacing, clearancing and fabricating the front mount.

I would love to hear how far others positioned their R230 off of the mustache bar, and if anyone had to clearance their TL or any other fittment issues.

Here's a site with alot pics doing the R230 swap. Nice write up write up as too. I believe the site belongs to a member here on HybridZ.

Anyway, I think he mentions fliping the mustache bar to push it further forward. Seems to have worked for him.

    Thoughts?

  7. Did everyone forget Brodys car at the last Hybrid shootout?I have plenty of pics if you need to see 'em.Matter of fact,I think he still has the supercharger setup for sale as we speak, going to a single turbo now...It can obviously be done, however he did put a little hump in the hood.I posted a pic in the hybrid z section in the albums. Can never seem to get a pic in a post

    showphoto.php?photo=827&sort=1&cat=500&page=1

Any idea what brand of supercharger he used?

Although I have no plans for EFI, the mounting location is great and I have no issues modifing the hood to fit. Its the strut towers I don't want to mess with.

  8. If you're wanting to put a VLSD into a Long nose R200; it should go.

You just have to work with it's output shafts.

Sparky I think you will find the S14 halfshafts to long for a Z.

    Chris

So as long as I have a set of 240sx VLSD output shafts, using a 240sx VLSD in my 280z R200 long nose carrier will work, right?

Another question. If I want to convert to CV's at the same time, how would I do this?

    Thanks for the help.

  9. Hey guys, I need someone that is pretty decent with electrical wiring etc.... I am not really interested in a business referal because I want the work done at my home.

I know the basics, but I need someone who can fix four stupid little things on my 280z that will get me throwing tools if I keep trying to figure them out myself.

#1: Driver side brake light doesn't come on. Its not the bulb and the socket isn't receiving power.

#2: I have no turn signals. I have three turn signal switches, two of which have been tested good and I still can't get them to work on my car. The only thing its good for is high/low beam swtich right now.

#3: The previous owner ditched the stock type ignition switch/tumbler for a generic type located on the dash. I have a working stock type Datsun switch and tumbler that I would like reinstalled.

#4: Lastly, my drivers side headlight is pretty dim compared to the pass side. I have a new headlight, but I can't figure out how to remove/replace the stock one. Some people have suggested that I do a HID conversion while I am at it.

    Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33 710&item=7937819304&rd=1

Any labor help would be thanked with cash, I live near Fresno, Ca.

    Thanks guys!!!
