  1. Sorry to hear that it let go Scottie. That's awesome that you were able to limp it home though. Definetly sounds like the spider gears went on you. I will check with a friend who closed his Corvette shop not too long ago and see if he has a line on any Dana 36 chunks.

  2. Dan, I was having the same problem and I went in and deleted all my temporary internet files including all the cookies and it seems to have fixed it. ZROSSA you might try it as well. Be sure to delete all the cookies because that is the only thing that worked for me. Unfortuneatly you will loose all of your automatic log ins for all the sites you might visit.

  3. Don said it best with regards to where these cars rust

On the body of the car.

If you have the time, patience and oh yes the money it is best to strip these cars all the way down. It is the only way you will know if you have found all the rust. On the other hand if you do a good investigation into all the areas listed above chances are you will be fine. It all depends on the condition of the car you are starting with.

  4. No coincidences, everything happens for a reason. I was on my way home tonight and stopped to get gas before getting on the interstate. A young man approached me and indicated he had run out of gas at the top of the off ramp. He was looking for a handout and I gave him the change in my pocket, how generous of me. He then asked me if I had a gas can and I told him sorry but no. I thought it was probably a scam until that point but I still let him walk off as I filled my car. I started thinking about this story and watched how distraut this guy was. He wasn't asking anyone else for money he was just standing there not knowing what to do. When I finished filling up I went in the station and bought a plastic gas can, all they had was the one gallon size. The guy flipped when I walked out with it. I put gas in it and gave him some cash to get home with. I profess to be a Christian but I certainly wasn't acting like it at first. Thanks for posting this Mat, I probably would not have helped him if I hadn't read this.

  5. First off, Welcome to the Board! You have found the place that can and will answer all of your questions. Every question you can imagine has been asked here and if you will use the search button you can find many of your answers. Spend an afternoon or evening searching and reading and you will be amazed at the wealth of knowlege.

To hit on a couple of your questions though. The stock 280Z rear end will hold the power of a stock LT1 just fine. They are not limited slip but the IRS launches pretty well in a straight line.

Your budget of $6-10K is a realistic one but also depends on the condition of the car you start with and if you let yourself slip into the "while I'm at it addiction" that we all seem to have.

A 12 second pass is possible with a stock LT1 but it may not be the norm. So many factors come into play like traction, track conditions and of course the driver.

Good luck and have fun with your swap.

  6. O.K. well I was bored at work and was trying to figure out how many posts it takes to change your status. It looks like it goes something like this:

So, Pete when you reach 5000 posts does that make you a HybridZ King of the World :D

  7. Burn the midnight oil & bust some knuckles!! Looking forward to seeing you in the caravan on Saturday. :D

On a serious note, I know it's a tall order and if the car doesn't make it I hope you will still come and have some fun.

  8. There will be quite a bit of body and paint work necessary when you remove the drip rails. You would then have to deal with the issue of trying to match your paint. The paint looks great on your car and I wouldn't risk it.

You can spray the chrome and stainless trim but the powder coating will give a much better appearance and will certainly last longer. You might get a piece of trim from the junk yard to experiment with so you can see for yourself.
