  1. I have just picked up a copy of a local mag "NZ Petrolhead" and their is a small article about a V10 viper engine going into a 240z in the USA. An expat Kiwi 'Golly' living in the USA has at his work a 1972 Datsun 240z that he is putting a brand new Dodge Viper motor and six-speed trans. The all aluminium V10, 488 cubic inches, 480hp and 500 ft/lb torque weighs in at 509lbs. The car is going to be a street car with full roll cage, power windows, A/C, 20 gallon fuel cell, CD sound system etc. Brake are 14" with siz-pot calipers, custom tubular front and rear A-arms etc. Comments from 'Golly'

"I've just started building a new firewall. The motor actually fits into the stock engine bay, but couldn't get it low enough, so moved it back about 5" and down. The motor only weighs 509lbs fully dressed, so it's lighter than the 150hp six-cylinder that came out."

I don't have a scanner so I can't get the pix but looks good in the engine bay. I will visit a friend to get the pix scanned but not sure how well they will come out, "NZ Petrolhead" is printed on newsprint.

Somewhat similar. Both are very impressive.

Henrik, I love it....looks like you have come up with a great look :D . Even the limited edition Shelby GR-1 Concept (if the do go into limited production that is) is still not a limited as your bute Zed.

  3. To get rims in those sizes with require 3 piece. Have a look at http://www.simmonswheel.com.au/ I think the F90 have the same type of look. Or check http://www.usacomp.com Compomotive - I have a set of the ML coming to full my flares 15x7 and 15x8 with max - offsets (ie -12 and -24 = 3.5" BS ie no coilovers). The issues is going to be tires in 15" and 16" unless you are planning to run slicks. However in Australia I believe there is a tire dealer that can supply 285/40/15 to go onto 15x10 rims see ttp://www.garysmotorsporttyres.com.au/vintage_race_tyres.htm

  4. .I'M BUILDING IT!!!

Pleased to see you have made a decsion - after all your car, money, time and love....err effort. I once owned HS30 00016 (RHD 00016 and it appears that Datsun/Nissan did run the same s/numbers in the beginning) and it was flared, sunroof, rusty etc result sold for a few $$ more than I paid for her. She has then shipped from NZ to Australia I believe it is still waiting the major rebuild by the owner I sold her to.

I believe if you rebuilding a Hybrid-Z, racecar or just restoring a Z you will want to start with the cleanest body you can get. So good on you for the excellent find and good luck with the build.

PS Has any one put an Audi 4.2l V8 into a Zed :?::D Not sure if it would fit :?:

  5. I have heard of guys running into issue with milled pistons - Like you say " have heard that taking the pistons down may cause structural integrity issues"

I have seen this happen also - years ago at a raceday here in NZ - result = holed pistons x2

I have read somewhere on the web (will try locate link and post here) talk about using a 2 mm head gasket.

Some links that might help are

  6. Hi - my first post - excellent site BTW.

F.Y.I The famed 20B is from the Mazda JC Cosmo I believe. The trible was an option in these cars only. Most were JDM (Jap Domestic Market) approx 9000 sold with only about 4000ish with the 20B optioned in. This = rare engine  also explains the high $$$ for these units  However would make a rare engine swap and very interesting :P .

Here in New Zealand we get a lot of JDM imports so their might be the odd 20B here 8) no idea on the $$.
