So I am installing a 2005 Subaru R180 with Johnc's stub axles in my 72 240z. I removed the original diff only to find that it is in fact an open 3.54 R200, not the R180 I was expecting. So now, I am not sure if the mustache bar is from an R180 or an R200. It appears that the PO enlarged the rear mounting holes to fit the larger R200 bolts so that is leading me to believe it is an R180 bar. Also, as you can see, the bar was mounted in front (towards the engine) of the transverse mount bars and the top (floor) mounting bolts are behind the bar like an R180 should be. I can not find a top-view picture of either bar so I am not sure if the bar should be straight or have the two bends in it you can see in my pictures. Can anyone ID this one? Also, can someone confirm whether the R180 and R200 input flanges are interchangable?

Awesome, thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure I was starting off on the right foot. No plans to upgrade injectors until I really need to BUT I am sure that day will come eventually...
-
Ok, so with the Corvette regulator running at 58 psi, and the stock injectors at say 28.8 lb/hr, I would need a minimum of 37.94 GPH? 28.8 / 6.073 * 8 cylinders = 37.94 So then if the pump is 38 GPH, it meets the minimum flow but if I increase the injector size, I would definitely need to upsize the pump as well, correct? Does it seem like JCI is cutting it really close?
-
Thanks for your input guys, I feel better about using this pump (though JCI still hasn't got back to me yet). Airtex sent me the graph:
-
Haven't heard back from JCI yet, but I contacted Airtex and this was their response when I asked about running an LS1 to about 400HP max: "Good evening. The E8228 does have 38 gph specs. A rule of thumb is 1 gph for every 10 hp. That would be about a 40 gph pump. This would be close. We also offer an E8248 that has 60-70 gph flow. I will get you a graph on Monday morning as I do not have it with me right now." So I guess a fairly stock LS1 with this 38GPH pump should be OK according to them. If I am maxing out the pump though, I would be worried about longevity. Will post the graph when I get it.

The model number is so faintly etched onto the pump and it is the only indication of what model it is anywhere in the package. I don't know a lot about the mechanics of all this but the specs say 38GPh but pressure is 100-125PSI and other pumps like the Walbro note other PSI levels like 40 or 80PSI. So I don't know how these even compare regardless of the GPH numbers.

I ordered John's Cars' fuel pump kit with the engine mounts for the LS1. It is an Airtex E8228 and came with no real info at all other than some generic installation instructions. Checked their website http://www.airtexproducts.com/product-catalog.aspx# and it shows this pump to have a flow rate of 38 GPH which translates into about 144 lph. Specs: "Rollervane; 12 volts; 100-125 PSI; 38 GHP; 5/16 hose; MPI Universal Replacement" This seems a lot lower than the Walbro 255lph that most people are using here with their LS1s. Is this enough fuel? Anyone else using this one?I plan to run a fairly mild LS1, maybe just a cam later on.

I imported my 240z (and several other cars) from Washington into BC. This is what you need to do: 1. find and buy the car, get a bill of sale and a copy of title 2. call or email the US border vehicle import department (they are at the truck crossing) to get the paperwork you need to fill out 3. you MUST wait 3 days from when the paperwork is submitted to them before you import the car. 4. get a insurance rider from Autoplan agent for a few days insurance 5. drive the car to the US side of the border in Blaine and get the title stamped "exported" 6. drive to the Canadian border and tell them you are importing a car 7. go inside and pay GST or HST or whatever they charge now 8. for an old car, you only need one of the two inspections to get registered and insured. You can go to many garages for this 9. you need Aircare only after the first year is up. I passed with flying colours and my car was running pig-rich with blueish exhaust 10. don't forget to post photos here when you get your car Pretty easy but you must do all these steps. Good luck!

Evangregory, really love the project and the pix, but can you post pix that will fit on a screen without scrolling?, like 1024x768? Good luck with the build!

Gorgeous car and I love the colour. Is the exhaust 3" all the way back?

Nice car! Lets keep this topic going, more pix ppl! Anyone have pix of cream-colored (less of a bright white) Z's? Thinking of going that route when I repaint this year.

rsicard: Install instructions from the Tanksinc site: http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=article/article_ID=6/art6.htm Postman: any updates? Really interested to hear how you made out with this and maybe a few more details about your fuel system.

Probably Tanksinc.com http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=84/category_id=61/home_id=61/mode=prod/prd84.htm Another vendor: http://www.massfloefi.com/fuel-supply-system/individual-fuel-delivery-parts/walbro-255-liter-per-hour-external-fuel-pump-234.html

No one has any suggestions? (other than switching to Chrome - thanks RB240zDET ) I suppose I can just install Chrome just for Hybridz, I do spend a lot of time here. And I am getting increasingly frustrated with IE.
-
Having trouble when I click on "Attached thumbnails". First, when I just click on them, it will take me to the attachment, away from Hybridz. Not too bad if there were only one attachment but if there were say three photos, only the first one will load. Second, when I click to open in a new tab, the expected action happens such as the photo pops up in front the (now darkened) web page. But it also opens a new tab and again loads the first image only. (Hybridz is listed as an exception for pop-up blocking). Works fine with Firefox so I imagine this is just a Internet Explorer 9 issue. Does anyone know what setting I should change? I know it worked before. Thanks!

I think the mounts will have to be cut down and/or fabbed somewhat based on what everyone else has said. I haven't ordered them yet but this is probably the best place I found price-wise: http://www.streetortrack.com/Corbeau-seats-accessories-c-452.html . Appears they give you free shipping plus $10 cash back. Rethinking the material now as well, really on the fence between suede and cloth. Car won't really be in the sun much-will be garaged and not too much sun here in Vancouver. Cloth maybe easier to keep clean, I dunno. We'll see, was hoping to get them ordered this week.
-
Thanks for all the measurements and pics, really helpful. Too bad about not being able to shave the seat, I was really counting on that. I may just go ahead and order them anyways. I was planning on getting the suede versions, anyone have comments about these? Good? Bad? I know the prices are apparently "fixed" from Corbeau but has anyone found a good deal anywhere? Some shops give you free shipping, etc.
-
They look real good in there. Any more pics? How's the head and door clearance?
-
That's great, thanks Carlos. From what I have found, a lot of ppl modify the mounts to gain more headroom. I am glad to hear that there is door clearance as this would be much harder to fix.
-
Great job! Did you mount the seats (LG1's?) to the stock points or did you fab up some new mounts? Do they hit your door panels at all? I was thinking about getting that suede material, is it comfortable and do you think it would wear well?

Came across this store which stocks Datsun memorabilia such as models as well as lots of service manuals. I just typed in "Datsun" into the search field, came up with lots of cool stuff. http://www.eautomobilia.com

Just in the middle of doing the front wheel bearings on my '72 and am a little stumped. Which side of the inner seal goes towards the spindle? The left (with groove facing engine) or the right (groove facing away from engine) in the picture? Thanks! Edit: Maybe this should be under the Brakes/Wheels/Suspension topic...
