  1. If I could find anyway to get one here stateside I would own it already lol.

That's the problem with some of these really nice engines, they are just not available in the states. Luckily most of the ones in this thread are, so parts might not be too expensive.

  2. also if the firing order is altered, one would need a custom set of cams, and to reposition the distributor/spark plug wires, correct?

Thats basically it. I'm sure theres something else but I cant think of it right now.

The main bearing locations and rod throws are what I'm trying to figure out right now. hopefully at least one of them will work. Hopefully we will know more soon.

  3. I have contacted the local nissan industral dealer and tomorrow I will be going over there to check out the TB42 and P40 engines in person. I am also going to take a look at the manuals for the engines and hopefully there will be nice shots of the crankshafts in there. In case they have the cranks in stock I am bringing along an L series crank to compare.

  4. SD33? no idea.. I stopped looking because of the firing order but if I turn up anything I'll post it.

Crower will build you a custom rotating assembly to your specs for $5,500. Which could be quite a bargain once you start pricing individual custom parts. Especially if you feel like pushing the outer limits of what the L block can hold.

  5. Seems to be another OHV engine, but with that kind of displacement and a flow through head it could be worth it. It also seems to be a bit bigger than an L series, anyone have exterior dimensions for an L series?

  6. That was a strange post, I went from depressed and aggrevated to totally hyper about building an engine like that! Too bad the nissan dealer is already closed or I'd be over there in half a heart beat bugging them about it.

  7. I'm starting to grow tired of information that doesnt match up. Even simple research on the L series is frustrating! I'm getting rod bearing diameters of either 50mm or 53mm, both from sources that I consider reliable. Its just aggrevating thats all. Heres some more info gained from that site..

    P40

    Bore-85.7mm

    Stroke-114.3mm!!!!

    Main-69.3mm

    Rod-57.15mm

    PPU

    Bore-85.7mm

    Stroke-114.3mm

    Main-68.23mm

    Rod-57.15mm

    TB42

    Bore-96mm

    Stroke-96mm

I need more info on these engines. Especially if the TB42 is OHC because that would be killer to use for a block, stock bore is massive and with some tinkering you might be able to hit 100mm BORE combo that with either the P40 or PPU crank and you have an unbelievably Massive engine at 5.4L. That would be INSANE in a Z car!

  8. While its good that you found that info and I'm totally thrilled btw, its not all good. The bore and stroke are conflicting with the original info. That link lists 87mm bore and 83mm stroke making 2.9605 Liters. However going back to the original specs, 83mm bore and 100mm stroke makes 3.246 Liters. An engine that would NOT be called H30, it would be H32 or H33. So which engine does have this mythical 100mm stroke? The SD33, which has the same specs as were given as the original H30 specs. So theres a problem solved right, WRONG. looking at the motorpowerinc specs, the SD33 has a 1-4-2-6-3-5 Firing order while the L series uses 1-5-3-6-2-4. So where does that leave us? The H30 DOESNT have a 100mm stroke. The SD33 DOES have a 100mm stroke BUT is has the Wrong firing order. So basically your only hope now is that the crank and cam from the SD33 fit the L series. which is unfortunately unlikely. I hate to say it, but we are doomed to have a 3.2L cap on our engines.

  9. This is true and I dont doubt it. IF the crank will work it opens up a whole world of displacement for the L series engine. I am hopefull the crank works but realistically I'm sure someone has tried it before. These engines have been around for a Long time, if no one has tried it in all that time I will be amazed.

btw, there is another nissan engine that could have some interesting parts..

  10. Acctually I was thinking 100mm H30 crank, L28 block bored to 90mm with KA24 oversize pistons which would put the displacement at 3.8L. I need some numbers to fill in the rest of the parts, but custom rods are pretty much a given.

  11. Yeah, he was talking about an ohc engine when the thread started but I have not found anything about an ohc version of this engine. maybe he was looking at something different I dont know. The only parts I've been able to find for the H30 engine online are a Propane carb and a starter. There are a few companies that mention rebuilt units, but no pictures. I will make those calls tomorrow and hopefully find an engine to drool on and hopefully take some measurements of.

On a side note I found out chevy builds 4.3L V6's setup for propane, if anyone is interested.

  12. The reason I want to swap the crank only is because every reference I have states that the H30 is OHV, meaning it has an inblock cam with pushrods. Simply bolting a L series head on it wont work. Seems the point we have arrived at is we need a closer look at this engine, every part of it. I have sent a few emails out and will do some calling to see if I can track one down, being a holiday weekend, it might take a little longer than I want but I will find one.

  13. oh I thought everyone was talking about throwing the crank into a l28 block.

Thats what I was talking about. Trying to build up an H30 engine would be shooting yourself in the foot, sure you'll have this gigantic torque monster but you are still dealing with pushrods. I would like to get that crank in a L28 block and see what would happen. I'm sure the block will have to be clearanced and custom rods and probably pistons made. Sure it will be a lot of work but its Way more cubes than any other L6 based car! That should be worth the cost, and with that much stroke you'll definately be pulling stumps.

  14. I hear you Max, I've only been working on mine for a couple of days but its killing me to not be able to show anyone! I think you guys are going to like it, I know I'm having a ball building it!

btw, I uh ..broke a part that I need. Is there any chance of getting a replacement or should I get another model to pirate it from?
