  1. Jamie, those are very fast wagons. Get an ipd catalog if you don't already have one. You'll want to upgrade the front and rear sway bars for sure on that car. Maybe even a new computer module (300hp the east way!). Those cars go through brakes fairly quickly--check them out before you buy...

Lone, JTR has a kit for just about anything nowadays! Hrm, TPI 5.7L in a radio flyer? No problem with JTR! icon_biggrin.gif

  2. So that's what the diff in my car looks like? Hrm. It does look rather large and heavy. Then again, the R200 is no lightweight either. Very good clear pictures Owen! Thanks for posting. I might run down to see if I can poach one of these in the local yard.

  3. Drew, I blew it when I said "site"; what I meant was pictures of your ride on Yahoo. I like the idea of a tunnel-ram sticking out of the hood! I would bring fear to the hearts of ricers everywhere! Imagine pulling up to a stop light with some cheesy winged Honduh in the next lane...he looks over and wets his baggy pants! Ohh, I like it!

  4. The headers will apparently work with the JTR set up. Look for a very long thread about headers--they are sourced from another company and you can buy the full length ones directly for about $175 if I remember correctly. As far as the MSA kit setting the engine "closest" to the firewall--perhaps they have finally changed the mounts, which used to be Hooker/Scarab mounts to my knowledge. The JTR kit I think looks much cheaper overall. I guess it depends on what you want. For example, I would never use a Turbo 350 tranny in my car, which is the tranny mount that MSA offers. Plus, JTR has plans and diagrams so you can cheaply make your own mounts, etc. I like that!

  5. Congrats on your score!

Try www.kaynor.net for an LSD brace to fit your car. It looks like a nice piece and I think you won't go wrong. An earlier thread (long post) dealing with the R230 (Mike Kelly) had Mark saying good things about it. I believe he was talking about this mount. Hope this helps!

  6. The Tantrums look very mean on the Z. Maybe the RX7 can live w/o them!!! Hehe! Running a wider tire on the rear appeals to me. The only thing that scares me about it is the probability of having the front sidewall be wider (thicker?) than the rear! There is something that doesn't look right about it. I want as close of a match as possible.

I bought a copy of Import! magazine which has an article of a very clean orange Z (and 510) that sports some awesome wheels. Actually, the wheel ads were the only reason for buying it. I may do Cobra R wheels because they are so cheap, but it's not my preference. icon_sad.gif

BLKMGK, your car is soming along nicely. Hopefully we'll get some pics up in the Featured Car section when you're done.

About the side mirrors, the MSA ones look "OK" when I was at the Natl's--still need to send CD to Myron--it has pics of at least 3-5 different mirrors and mountings. WAIT before you bolt on a new set! The owner of a certain Z (I won't mention his name) would NOT tell me what he used! This was for the sake of exclusivity. icon_mad.gif I found it offensive. His mirrors are from either a genII RX7, Pontiac Grand AM, or some other car that features a triangular window frame mount. I WILL figure it out, and when I do I WILL post it for all to see...

  7. One thing to add to this good discussion:

The EFI atomizes fuel better than a carb, but is probably more of a chore to install and is more expensive--at least from my research. With a single-plane intake, the EFI may counter(?) some of the inherent bog or delay one may experience with a single-plane intake?

To just touch on what WebWalker asked about, perhaps something (hit or miss here) that contributed to the uneven mix at low rpm: way lumpy cam (not the best match?) and maybe the carb you were running (too much carb, jets not right, etc). Just some things I'm thinking about since I was not there.

I'm sticking with my Weiand Stealth manifold which is supposed to act like both a single and dual plane intake. It has a split personality! icon_biggrin.gif

By the way IMO this discussion has been really excellent and thought provoking. Everyone has put in a great amount of thought and expertese. Very enjoyable! icon_smile.gif

  8. Anthony (Triple threat311),

Are you getting the idea of which swap that we think is the best (overall)? icon_smile.gif

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anthing like that, but those who picked the JTR kit (whether they fabbed it themselves or not) are very opinionated that it's the way to go...

Just food for thought. Maybe some of the Scarab guys can kick in a few comments. I know there are at least a couple of guys who enjoy those kits as well.

    Hope this helps you, Anthony.

  9. Sometimes I wonder where we would be without guys like Tim & Ross. At least they read the archives!

With respect to the road issue. Here in Northern CA, the roads are pretty bad as well. Taxes from gasoline are supposed to be paying for roads, but it all is a crock of you-know-what. Finally they paved the main boulevard where I live! You couldn't get the rear end to hook right with all those pot holes icon_biggrin.gif The worst freeway bar far is the Nimitz (I-880). It's never finished and they let it get really bad before they start repaving it...I guess a few lawsuits against the city in the works gets someone to DO something about it.

  10. Fraga, are you CA? If not, check to see if you can get away with getting an exhaust system that has no catalytic converter. Don't worry about "hurting" the environment because that cat didn't work for more than 5 years anyway after the car was purchased!

Many of today's cars give longer warranties on smog related parts, but not back then...
