  1. Any updates on your attempt on a turbo LD28? Using a Cummins injection pump is a good idea, as it's a rotary pump similar to the Diesel Kiki pump that the engine runs factory. Being that it's not a common pump on engines that get turned up I wonder how much more fuel you can get out of one doing mechanical adjustments with the fuel screw and such. One other pump I thought about using would be the 84-86 Volvo 740 diesel as the car was factory turbocharged with a 2.4 VW diesel engine. At least you'd have the turbo/boost compensator already on the pump to take advantage of the turbo you'd install on the LD28 to do away with the non-turbo setup. Just another idea and it really just depends on how much extra fuel you could get out of those smaller VE rotary pumps seen on the VW and Nissan. Like I always like to say the diesel engine and turbocharger were born to be a combination!
  2. Hi, just bought my first Zcar and had it delivered last weekend. It's my first "gasser" vehicle that I've owned since I started driving at 16 (only owned diesels since). Bought it in MD, but it's a Texas car and had almost every fluid drained out to winterize it. So last weekend I bought oil, all service filters, coolant, and fresh gas to put into the tank. I changed the air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, installed oil in engine, coolant in cooling system, and installed a good battery from another vehicle I own until I buy a new one for the car. I didn't change the spark plugs or wires as they looked like they were in good shape to start to get it running first and then go from there. But it my attempts all the engine will do is crank and not start. I haven't even got it to start to fire, just continuous cranking sound of the starter. Did not check for spark at each plug, which I know I have to do before getting too far but I think it's related to no fuel getting to the engine. It's the EFI L28E engine with automatic trans and I believe no EGR. After cranking it I took off the fuel outlet hose that goes from the outlet of fuel filter to fuel supply line and it was bone dry. Not even hardly a smell of gas in it either, so it's telling me I have an issue with getting fuel to the under hood area. Also, when turning the ignition to the "ON" position I don't get any sound at all from the fuel pump which I believe you should hear it run for a few seconds before going to start. Is there a quick way to test the fuel pump? The closest thing I have to a workshop manual is an 82 Datsun Maxima workshop manual that covers the L24E engine (little brother to L28E) and it covers testing an EFI relay, fuel pump relay, and the fuel pump. But just don't know if the Zcar chassis is different then the Maxima. By scouring the manual I think the problem lies within the two relays, fuel pump, or even the ECU that I can't believe the car has being a 75! I guess they were ahead of their time with electronic fuel injection in 75, but can anyone give advice or a place to start diagnosing it. It's supposed to have low mileage, so I'm sure it can't be anything too major. Thanks. Sal
  3. Yea, the design isn't the best but it still does get the job done. Just pretty much consider it a removable turbo flange instead of fixed to an exhaust manifold. Reason I'm looking for one like this is I can just use the stock diesel manifold I got on my engine instead of having to mount/adapt a 280ZX turbo manifold (as I'm almost positive I've read everyone that tried it said you need to grid on it to fit on the diesel head).
  4. Looking for a cast iron turbo adapter piece that will bolt onto a stock N/A manifold outlet to T3 adapter flange. This would be the adapter I guess that was for aftermarket turbo kits used back in the day before the turbocharged cars came out. There is one on Ebay now, but asking almost $200 "buy it now" for it is may too much to pay in my opinion. Looking to buy an adapter to bolt onto an LD28 diesel exhaust manifold to allow me to bolt on a turbo fairly easy. If I can't find an adapter to use, I guess a stock 81-83 280ZX turbo manifold would work. Just requires me to grind parts of the manifold at the port flanges to mount on an LD28 diesel head. I'd much rather try to buy and use the adapter piece on a N/A manifold as I think it'd be easier to install a turbo. Thanks. Sal
  5. I'd also be interested in a 3" diameter downpipe too. Are they available aftermarket or do you have to custom make them, as the one you have pictured is made up? I don't even have a Zcar yet, but I'd like to buy a 3" pipe to put on an LD28 diesel engine I have after I mount a turbo of course. Thanks and appreciate any help on where I could get a 3" downpipe.
