I have heard many times that these l28 EFI engine will stall if you remove the dip stick/ pcv hoses while the engine is running, however mine will stay running without any of those things in place. Does anybody know why that would be? I recently replaced the pcv valve to see if that was it but that made no difference. I've been told vacuum leaks will cause this however my manifold vacuum readings are proper through the whole rpm range. Starting to think it's gotta be piston rings or something...
My 280z has an AZ zcar 4 barrel Holley carb manifold on it and I have deleted the PCV, that would normally vent back into the stock EFI manifold, with just a filter venting to atmosphere. The engine runs great and pulls hard but I've noticed oil fumes while Im driving and engine braking, now I have no engine oil leaks and my engine doesn't burn oil, so i have isolated the smell to the air filter that Ive attached to the Crankcase vent tubing on the side of the engine(shown in pictures). I found this rubber elbow fits nicely. I thought I was being smart, sticking the PCV valve in there but, lol, I realized its not protecting the top vent from backfire. so I got to re think my set up, but the black rubber elbow works as a simple solution for making a connection for the lower fitting. I found it in the "help" section at AUTO-ZONE, It's DORMAN part number 46035. Its actually the second one I have had. The first one developed surface cracks after 3 years. That's to be expected I guess, next next to that header. No big deal, just picked up another one $10. I'll
