Godkväll... (good evning, in swedish)

Got this question for ya... how come people use water/meth injection....

Been searching for some time and cant get a good enogh answer.

Yeah I know the benefits, but is there really a need for it on the old L28et...when you are looking for about 350 engine hp. And setup containing Intercooler, Nira ecu, and all the modern tech stuff. Like come on, they cant be that crappy even being 30+ years old.

Cheers....

PS: For all of you that dont know what Nira is.... http://www.niramotorsport.com/ the swedish way to make your engine run... :) hehe

Cooler intake air = greater density = more power + less chance of detonation. If your intercooler gives a good temperature then all is fine.

Some of us run old Turbo Tom systems which is draw thru carb setup. No intercooler allowed as fuel might pool in it. Meth injection provides alternate cooling method. High CR engines also like water injection.

The addition of methanol makes for a cool burn with a LOT more ignition advance (on par with a N/A engine) so this raises peak cylinder pressure more in line with the original time/crankangle/pressure trace.

It adds a huge margin of safety against detonation. And yes, they can be that crappy. If you have a US Specification L28 with a P90 or P79 head, they are emissions chambers designed for low NOx production, not really detonation resistant. They accomplished detonation reduction by very conservative timing, and lots of EGR to keep combustion temperatures down.
