michaelp
I'm looking to build a carb'd LT1, and I searched and searched but find mixed results. I know about the GMPP intake manifold, but have found some people saying Vortec intake manifolds will bolt up and work even though they're only 8 bolt, instead of 12...and others say they don't work. Has anyone actually done this or is it hearsay? Thanks!
Mike C
I have the GMPP intake although I have not actually bolted it on the motor yet... But just knowing that the biggest issue the Vortec motors had was the intake gaskets failed, I wouldn't consider running one if it did bolt up. As usual, YMMV. rsicard
michaelp: It seems the older style 12 bolt intake manifolds may work. The LT-1 cylinder head does not have coolant ports to the intake manifold but that should not be a problem. Suggest trying a dry fit of an older style intake manifold to see if the LT-1 water pump can be retained and not interfere with the older intake manifold. The other concern may be the steam ports/hoses at the rear of the LT-1 cylinder heads keeping them intact. Interested to know how this works out.
