What size wrench do you use and how did you hold the nut in the back? I don't have any room to get to the back. Any advice on how to get into these tight spots? morbias Posted September 24, 2011 Share Posted September 24, 2011 They are a pain in the ass, you need to find an open ended wrench with as thin an end as possible, then rotate the driveshaft until you get as much clearance as possible to work with. BLOZ UP Posted September 24, 2011 Share Posted September 24, 2011 I took mine off with 2 12mm or 14mm box end wrenches. You will need to put the rear wheels up, and take it out of gear to turn the driveshaft and loosen one or to bolts at a time. Each time pulling the handbrake to keep it from turning. beermanpete Posted September 24, 2011 Share Posted September 24, 2011 Use a 12mm wrench. Get 2 of the longest 12mm box wrenches you can find. If possible, get some that don't have the offset angle. Fuzzydicerule Posted September 25, 2011 Share Posted September 25, 2011 they should be a 12 and a 14, i usually take the 14 on the nut(the rearward end,)and wedge or push the wrench on the crossmember or floor pan while turning the driveshaft by hand in neutral, usually works pretty well. twofouroh Posted September 26, 2011 Share Posted September 26, 2011 I can't remember if the bolt head is already locked by the flange, but if it isn't, I would just jam a flat screwdriver blade in to lock it. That cuts the wrench problem by half, just be sure to put the blade in from the side so that turning the nut pulls the screwdriver in, not pushes it out. On my S13 they were 'locking head' bolts, guess I should grab some next time I'm at the U-Pull and see if they work on the S30 too. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pharaohabq Posted September 27, 2011 Share Posted September 27, 2011 Another possibility is to tack weld the bolt heads so you don't have to hold it. It's not the best way but it works. You'll have to grind then pop the old bolts out once its loose. Clean up isn't too bad but you'll need to replace the bolts afterwards.
