mattausten23
Hi everyone, today I drove my 1972 240z to my friends house today and stepped on the brakes after warming up the car and noticed a hissing sound coming from the pedal. Then after that I noticed that the RPMs were jumping about 500 when I pushed on the brakes. Also when I drove it the brakes sucked. I drove the car yesterday for a while and it was driving great. It was just today this problem came up. I haven't had any time to look at it today but I just wanted to get some ideas on what it might be. Thanks everyone! ritrebor
I would check the brake booster and vacuum line to it. Sounds like you got a leak. ritrebor
Leon
Time to replace the booster.
mattausten23
Yea both those problems popped into my head. I drove a Z with a bad brake booster once and it felt the same as my car did when I brake. Guess it's time for a brake upgrade! Any suggestions? Leon
I think the logical thing to do is to replace the booster. How would a brake "upgrade" fix anything?

Im going to replace the booster, but while I'm at it might as well up grade the lines, calipers, and rotors which is what i planned on doing in the future anyways. Leon
My suggestion would be to get the stock system up to par, then decide if you want to "upgrade" the brakes.
