CaptainJoe87
Ok, so I get in my car to start it and no response. The cd player turned on, the lights inside were on with the door open ( nothing was left on previously). When I went to turn the key there was nothing at all. I disconnected the battery and hooked it back up, got in, and it started just fine. BUT my friend noticed the NEGATIVE terminal of the battery had some corrosion and smoked when starting. Upon further inspection it looked like the terminal also melted or something, a chip was missing out of the side of the wire connector with fresh metal exposed, also it was very hot only after starting it twice and running for maybe 30 seconds. My step dad is a mechanic and has been for years so I trust his knowledge he hasn't seen it but when I called him he said he had never seen smoke off the negative side before. Any help is greatly appreciated. Can upload pictures later if that could help.
deja
Clean the battery terminals and cable connectors well and reattach them. Corrosion will cause that exact issue. Also inspect the cables for broken insulation. Make sure your starter has a good, clean ground.
CaptainJoe87
The connection was a little bit loose. Once I replaced the connection and cleaned the battery terminal everything was fine.
