Buffalo_Z
I recently bought a '73 240Z with a later L28 motor swapped in. What is the easiest way to tell what carbs I have? It seems like any emissions equipment has been removed and I think the header is aftermarket. Are these the good SU carbs, or the newer "smogged" carbs? Thanks, Matt
BluDestiny
There are 2 versions of "round top" SU's. 3 and 4 screws. You have round top carbs. So yes you have the "good" carbs. Flat top carbs are literally flat on the top.
blue72
Yep, you've got the good round top SU carbs. The header is aftermarket, definitely not a stock cast iron (or is it cast steel?, can't remember) exhaust manifold. You do have the '73 style intake manifolds and thin carb spacers. It appears that the balance tube is an earlier piece too, without so many emissions provisions, but like you said, it appears that all of the emissions equipment has been removed and all of the extra ports capped or plugged. Buffalo_Z
So as long as I want to stay with carbs, this seems like a good setup right? Is there any other hardware I should be hunting down to complete this? Matt
