superduner
Hi everyone, recently I had to rebuild my 87 300zx turbo Z31t shafts for my 240z ; however, on one of the shafts one of the little metal C looking clip/lock/retainer broke into pieces as i took the shaft apart. The C looking metal retainer is the metal piece that goes on the actual middle shaft that must be pressed or "compressed" with a flat head or some sort in order to RE-assemble the cv's just making this thread since im searching for the specific name for these so i can search online, or in case anyone has some spares they are willing to barter with. attached is a file of what the clip looked like Edited October 9, 2012 by superduner
JMortensen
Should be able to find one from a driveline parts place. It's not an uncommon part.
SUNNY Z
Every new boot that I bought for mine came with all new clips.
RebekahsZ
I'm sure I have one that I can spare. Send me your address and I'll throw it in an envelope. It'll cost you a beer if we ever meet. Expensive beer.
superduner
Every new boot that I bought for mine came with all new clips. Funny you brought this up I coincidentally bought a new boot to replace a ripped one on the shafts and unfortunately did not come with any hardware, other than a little grease bag for the cv's. I got robbed! haha NICE! thanks a bunch rebekah! kudos for a helping hand
RebekahsZ
I may be nice, but I can't do anything without an address. If I remember, there are two different c-clips. Is the one you need for the inner CV or the outer? Ooops. Just found your PM and your edited post with a picture. Will find it in my shop tomorrow and get it out with Wednesday's mail. SUNNY Z
Theres a circlip on the inner, which is what that is, and a snap ring. then two snap rings on the outer, and one to retain the CV joint in the cup.

Yeah found the loop holes to my thread and figured i would address future possible questions regarding what i needed. SWEET! the irony right?... that something so small is the last thing i need to have my Z "safely" running on the road. The beauty of mechanics. RebekahsZ
OK, so I PM'd you that the circlip is in my mailbox. I think the mail man comes at around 5pm, we are one of the last stops on his route for the day. I just stuck it in an envelop with some padding and 2 stamps. I got it from one of my extra CV boot kits from Rockland (or is it Rockford?) Driveline, so it is brand new. As far as the band clamps go for the boots, I recommend big screw-type hose clamps from Lowes or Home Depot. I think a 3" clamp is big enough. I have used hose clamps on mine without them coming off. The reason I like them is that I never seem to get the boot in just the right spot on the shaft, so the hose clamp allows me to adjust the boot after assembly on the car.
