Not getting fuel after rebuild.

Recommended Posts

1977 280z 2+2. N42 head and block. I finally have it all back together after a very long time thankfully. The fuel filter is not clogged for sure ( spray of gas to the face ). The timing chain is accurately set and i have taken the oil pump out many times and placed it back in so i believe it is set on the right tooth. When I spray some starter fluid in the intake i can get the car to backfire once but nothing more. I have the manuals from xenonS30 but i still cant seem to figure it out. Any help or comments will be GREATLY appreciated.

Timing is when the spark happens.  Unless you're good with your ear, you're best off to set it with a timing light.  It spins counterclockwise.  1-5-3-6-2-4.  What matters most is where the rotor tooth is in relation to the magnetic pickup.

Look in the Electrical chapter of the FSM under distributor.  It has the firing order and much other good information that will help you out.  The Engine Tuneup chapter will show you how to set the timing and what/where the various parts are.

shit. it makes sense now that i know it spins counter clockwise, the distributor cap has a little "notch" saying which is the first cylinder to fire from TDC and the dizzy is somehow on the wrong side of the first cylinder. i will try to correct the distributor timing and consult the manuals
