Jwinnsrt
Well I was driving the car and it kept turning off on me in which I had to keep loping the clutch to keep car running .When I got it home it would crank but not fire up. I've replaced alternator battery distributor cap and rotor. Also I've pulled off coil wire and was getting spark. So I think it may be fuel pump it's been humming very loud since I've purchased car but I wanted to test fuel pump before I spend more money on parts that won't get the car back on the road

Jwinnsrt
When I try to crank it , it makes the rrrrr-rr-rrrr sound but I hear nothing from pump when cranking
Domzs
Check to see if you have power and ground to the pump during crank . If so , have someone listen and feel it . If it's trying , check the inlet side to see if it's clogged . Should have a small cone filter in the inlet side . You can carefully remove and clean it . If it's clogged , check fuel tank condition .
OldAndyAndTheSea
Assuming that this IS a 280z, you could pull the boot leading to the air flow meter, and push the flapper open with your finger, with the ignition on. This will turn the fuel pump on if everything is working correctly. But from my experience, as Domzs said, I'd check the inlet screen or tank condition. Fuel pumps tend to get louder as they age, and this is only exaggerated if the pump is struggling to pull some rust, or junk through the inlet. I feel a fuel system cleanse is probably in order.
