Onion
I took a peek down my oil filler cap and saw that the cam bearings are extremely worn and scored. What could be the cause of that? How could I fix that (if there's something to do besides the obvious of replacing the part)? Is it okay to drive like this? 1973 240Z with 22k miles. Car does have an aftermarket cam. beermanpete
The marks on on the outside of the cam bearing housing. The actual bearing surface is inside the bore and cannot be seen without removing the cam. It is not too likely a problem. You could take the valve cover off and inspect it more closely if you feel the need. Edited May 18, 2013 by beermanpete
Tony D
I'll go further than "not to likely a problem": there is NO problem! This is the sanding marks frm the giant belt sander that took the casting spruce off the cam tower when in foundry production. Find me one that DOESN'T have the exact same scratches on it...I dare ya! Don't pull the valve cover unless its leaking or you intend to do a valve lash adjustment.
