Naptown Dave
Its cool though I can get each motor mount unbolted in like an hour flat! Lol
Domzs
You need to put the O2 6" to 8" after the collector so it can read more accurate . Make sure the O2 is facing up , less chance of getting water ( moisture ) contamination ( inside exhaust system ) .
Naptown Dave
I ended up putting them about 6" back from the end of the primary. I didn't have much choice but to put them horizontal inboard toward the trans

mattd428
Who needs o2 sensors? Not this guy.
RebekahsZ
On my shorty headers I put the O2 sensor in the collector, which is about 3 inches long and the primaries are only about 10" long. It reads fine and makes good power, clean plugs and no smoke. Must be ok. Think about access (you gotta get a wrench on those sensors, and where your wiring will run (don't melt em). My tuner asked for a second bung on each header to be able to plug into while tuning. It should be accessible from under the car. Otherwise it will run rich when he pulls the o2 sendor and installs the sensor from his test stand.

Domzs
Like RebekahsZ said , install 2 additional bungs for wideband tuning .
Naptown Dave
Good call on the second set of bungs. Add that to the list of things not done.
Naptown Dave
Here's a pic Dom. I put them in as high as I could without hitting the transmission I will put the spare bungs in a couple inches back. I extended the drivers side sensor wires to run across the valve cover under the fuel injection harness and down the back of the block. The passenger side breaks off the harness right at the firewall and down to the connection, safe and sound

Maybe another 4" to 6" further back and if you can , have them at least at 45 deg angle . Your call .
RebekahsZ
Looks fine-awesome, actually. I really belabored this decision-I don't think it really matters as much as we think. If you put your second set of bungs further back, you can use them as either test bungs or as the primary ones if these front ones don't perform well. Naptown Dave
Dom, I should put them up high because hot air rises right? (just kidding) I didn't think about it before but I can snag a right angle drill from work and finally buy a step bit and put my second set downstream and parallel (vertical) with the trans tunnel. That would look pretty slick and keep the wiring tucked away and clean. Keith I think you are right, we're kind of splitting hairs when talking a couple inches, that only matters to the girls. I would think the exhaust pulses would mix pretty well in the collector. I've read everything from as close to the primaries as possible to 4x the primary diameter minimum. I will have them somewhere in that range and I'm sure it will work out fine. http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/articles/hardcore/0505em_exh/viewall.html here is a really good article on zero loss exhaust design that a member passed on to me. I can't remember who it was but he built a REALLY nice set of try y headers for his SBC Z. Edited August 14, 2013 by Naptown Dave
RebekahsZ
Just keep in perspective that all this work might gain you 17hp. Save some time, money and energy for a 150 shot.
Naptown Dave
Keith, do you mean that rather extensive exhaust article?
RebekahsZ
I think 1tuffz gave his before and after long tube dyno numbers some while back.
