socorob
I would go with the factory bolts. These bolts scare me. I had a call out this morning and this is what I found.
RebekahsZ
Looks like they were just over torqued.
socorob
No. When I replace them after they break I just snug them with an Allen wrench. These are totally loaded in shear only with people pushing against them.

SUNNY Z
Keith, Just go to an 8.8. I have 4 bolts @ 14mm holding my driveshaft flange on! haha
RebekahsZ
Any new timeslips, SunnyZ, or are you still PW'd?
RebekahsZ
Cheapo yoke mated to driveshaft and car put back together hoping to put power to it Friday night. Ready to load on trailer. Will check in with the DSS tomorrow to see how custom DS is coming along.
RebekahsZ
Not having fun trying to get this custom driveshaft made. The Driveshaft Shop seems to need me to tell them exactly what I want, as opposed to them giving me a recommendation. Very hard to get their driveshaft man on the phone, but at least he emails. I'm asking them for a Mark Williams hardened chrome moly slip yoke, 1350 solid Spicer u-joints, and they feel that a 3" DOM steel tube is adequate. What I don't know is what static yokes and flange are available. I think I'm learning that they are all cast iron??? Anybody have any ideasrecommendations on these parts? RebekahsZ
Final plan: Strange nitrited billet slip yoke, standard fixed yokes, 1350 solid Spicer front u-joint, 3" DOM tube, 1310 solid Spicer rear u-joint (size limited by rear Nissan flange size), round 300zxt Nissan rear flange with square bolt pattern for 10mm bolts. $585. Waiting for arrival. Racing on repaired driveshaft tomorrow night, reducing 2-step from 4000rpm to 3000 rpm.
SUNNY Z
You'll like the DSS piece. Good quality.
RebekahsZ
Thanks for your advice the other night.
RebekahsZ
Installed the cheap cast slip yoke from speedway and made about 12 passes on it. Result: twisted. It hasn't snapped yet, but I put straight markings on the yoke with a sharpie and they are clearly twisted like a peppermint stick. Just ordered a forged TCI yoke from Jegs. It was the only hardened unit I could find that accepted 1310 U-joints. Gonna try to have it swapped out for Saturday's autocross. I'm running one yoke per event lately. Just fixing this driveshaft to keep car limping along till custom driveshaft arrives.
RebekahsZ
New driveshaft shipped while I was out of town and manufacturer marked it signature required so instead of arriving on Friday for Sat install, I have to wait to Monday to receive it. Ahhhhh!!! Another month without autocrossing. 😩
cockerstar
You can't go pick it up from the carrier on Saturday morning?
RebekahsZ
No, carrier is two hours away. I'm in the sticks.
RebekahsZ
Just tracked it again, it is at a location 20 minutes away but they are closed on Sat. I'll spend the day with my daughter instead-that's ALWAYS best! I'm over my little hissy fit.
socorob
Do you happen to know if your flange is the same as the early q45 flange?
