Guest ScaryFast
How much can a l28 block be bored out and still remain reliable? How about out to 3.623" It is a lot, but is it possible to get even close to that?

Z-Gad
I have heard of people going as high as 90mm or 3.5433", but it took me sonic testing 3 engine blocks to get one that had marginally enough cylinder wall to do the 89mm or 3.50393" overbore. just my .
Lockjaw
89 mm is the commonly accepted limit to go without sonic testing. If you have stupid money you can look into something for me. I wonder if we could not sleeve the engine with those sleeves the turbo honda guys are using and bore beyond 89 mm without worries.
DAW
I want to know the maximum overbore for the LD28. I don't have the money to pop for sonic testing just to find out. However, on visual examination of the cyl bore wall material in the rear-most block water jacket vs that of an L24 block, it appears that there is a lot more material there vs the L24. How much over 84.5mm can the LD28 be bored? DAW
Z-Gad
I was unable to sleeve the L28 for an 89mm piston on the #6 cylinder. When the machine shop attempted it, they hit the main oil galley and presto...instant paperweight.
DAW
Not sure, but this may be the reason the F54 block is recommended for the big overbore (vs the earlier N42 block). Which was yours? DAW
Z-Gad
All three of mine were F54 turbo blocks.
Guest sball
I looked into boring out an L26 block to take L28 pistons, from 83mm to 86mm. The limit I was told by a guy who had many years building race motors for Z's said no more than 2mm or you will find very small porossity holes in the casting that may cause the water to enter as fine steam and totally ruin a good engine I went to 85mm and have had no probs with it. the other thing to consider is which head gasket could you use for the over bore? Lockjaw
The HKS does 91 mm.
