RebekahsZ
Adding 4 hood pins to my 240z for 3 reasons: 1) I don't want to ever deal with a broken hood release cable again, and 2) my sanctioning body requires them 3) the front of my hood rises and shakes against hinges at speeds over 100mph (it's kind of scary). I've ordered 2 pair of self-retaining hood pins from speedwaymotors.com I'm soliciting advice for a location for the front 2 pins. Any problem with me putting them thru the webbing at the sides of the radiator support? Edited January 30, 2014 by RebekahsZ

RebekahsZ
Thanks guys. Want to stay simple, no Aerocatch for me. At least for now, just getting the holes drilled in the right place thru my megadollars carbon hood will be good enough for me. Any pointers for putting the holes in the right places willingly accepted- play-dough (ala plasti-guage) is the plan for now. PLATA-why is it that all the cool hybrids start as piss yellow z-cars. Under 5 different colors, you will find that my car, too, is piss yellow. This is Saturday morning's project.

RebekahsZ
Got 3 out 4 hood pins done this weekend. I am trying to retain the factory hood hinge so that I don't have to remove the whole hood and set it on the floor where it can be stepped on or run over. This creates some trouble because the hood closes on a radius instead of just being taken straight on or off. Decided to use the captive pin system sold by either Sparco or Speedwaymotors.com. I chose this kit because it should keep me from losing a pin every once in a while; and I won't have to run cables around the corner from somewhere to keep from losing pins. Trying to use existing locations for the posts to avoid having to add brackets. This leaves the location of the hood bumpers near the cowl and the radiator support gussets. The hood bumpers were easy because there is a relatively flat surface on the corners of the hood, and the cowl where the bumpers are is flat and level. The radiator support gussets don't have a level surface to attach the posts to. The screws that hold the pin assemblies to the hood are very close to the hole that the post pass thru, and that crowds things. I used a dremel tool with a burr to do all the cutting and drilling on the carbon hood to avoid the cracks that form when using a drill bit. I installed the posts first then used modeling clay to help me decide where to drill the big holes. It's not perfect, but it's good enough. Will have my hot rod fabricator (a genius with a welder) spot weld the post adjustment nuts to the car next week and this part of my project will be done. richie2619
I've considered removing hood height adjusters, putting pins in their place, and cutting rubber or urethane to slide over the pins to retain the proper alignment with the fender/ cowl. RebekahsZ
That's the way to do it in back. The issue with the webbing is that it is at an angle. If you are a welder, you can get the angle right. If you aren't a welder you are kinda screwed. I have it mocked up and will take it to a welder soon. Will post final pics but it will be a couple weeks. I couldn't find a good place for a simple "bolt-on" solution in front.
