Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Heck of a good night at the 1/8 mile track last night! I had my best ever 60 ft launch of 1.81 with my $50 195/60 14" street tires! I've done a 1.71 60 ft. with slicks before, but to get that low with lowly street tires was sweet. My best run of the night was an 8.33 @ 84.7 mph, which also happened to be my best run ever on street tires. There were about 30 street cars there last night and the only one there faster than my Z was a supercharged 2001 Trans Am that was turning 7.89 @ 93 MPH. Gotta love them old inline 6's! Lockjaw
Norm that is strong man. I don't get those times out of my ZX with drag TA's. I run 1.89's. My pal ran an 8.42 with his 240, but he had side drafts. I bet some people were kind of freaking out when you first got up there and ran weren't they. Haha, I like it when that happens. Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Hey Lockjaw, your buddy has a good running Z . That is the fastest time I have heard of in a street legal triple weber equipped Z. What is his setup and was he running drag radials when he got the 8.42? yo2001
that's just sick Norm I'll be doing some good if I can cut some 2.0sec 60 ft.
Lockjaw
He was running webers (they used to be mine, so I set them up jetting wise) with 33 mm chokes, a MSA 6 into 1 header, flat top 2.8 bottom end with a heavily milled P79, a .490 lift 290 advertised duration crower cam, HKS flywheel, 4.08 gears, Standard ZX trans, and some of those Mikey Thompson treaded tires that get sticky if you heat them up. He also had a 3 inch exhaust with a Blomaster muffler. He had a 240 and it was just a regular car, no lightening or anything like that. It was brutally stout above 3500 rpms too. He could turn it to 8k and it did not sound like it was even wound out that tight. Then he took the 3 two's off so he could get a guy to put a fogger nozzle in each intake runner, and it was a short lived engine after that. Lockjaw
Hey Yo, like his sig says, you gotta drive it like you stole it. I do that in the ZX, but I am scared to in the 260 still. Maybe next time.

Dan Baldwin
Norm, as usual, you ROCK! Can't wait to see what you do in the 1/4.
Guest zfan
Norm, That is awsome I can't break 2.0's with street tires. TOO MUCH wheel spin. What tire pressure are you running? Mike
Scottie-GNZ
Oh great, Norm. Now you are going to have every Z owner thinking they can cut 1.80s with their "El Cheapo" tires Folks, Norm has more time slips than some of you have $$$ in the bank. On a serious note, thats awesome.
Lockjaw
What did you soak 'em in prior to heading to the track?
Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
No I didn't do anything special at all to them. I ran 26 psi in the passenger tire and 24 psi in the drivers side tire. I did a good burnout and two short dryhops and then launched around 3800 rpm and didn't floor it until a half second or so later. Track conditions were good or I would have never been able to pull it off. Later, norm
Lockjaw
Well whatever you did, you were doin' it. I noticed last time I was at the track that they were at least putting down some VHT, which is nice, although it smells alot like some of that pimp oil stuff to me. pparaska
Incredible! What kind of rear camber do you run? Any idea what it is during launch/squat?
Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Hey Pete that is one of the issues I need to address as my shocks are worn out and wear out the inside edge of the tire twice as fast as the outer edge. Its very easy to see my tires cambered in with the car sirring still. I imagine on launch it is way cambered in! I have the tires turned inside out after about 60 % wear so that I can get full use of the tire. I feel like if I had 0 camber I could get even better 60 ft. times. Later, norm
Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Also keep in mind that I DO NOT have an LSD rear end so that makes the 1.81 60 ft. even more surprising. Later, norm
Lockjaw
I have never had one, so I don't know what I am missing I guess. Usually I get both tires to spin though, although one usually spins further than the other.
