Guest Anonymous
I have a 78 280Z L28 motor with the N42 head and I was wanting to know what head change would give me the most horsepower? and how much you think I could get the head for? David K
you should stick with that head. Im guessing if you are asking what head is the best, you really dont know much about the L series engine. stay with your current head and put the money/work elsewhere like exhaust and intake. Mike C
Keep your head and go to the junkyard to buy a ZX motor with flat tops. Then put your head on the flat top motor to boost compression to around 10:1. There is a junkyard in Leander (Cantwell's) that has several L series motors you could probably get cheap. Including one in like an '80 model car with an auto that looks to be in good shape. (Thought about getting it myself...)
Guest Anonymous
The N42 is an exellent head. I suggest that you port and polish the head or have it done, install a header and performance exaust, and to raise compression easily use a NISMO head gasket. It's only 0.6mm thick, but make sure the pistons DO NOT portrude past the deck.
