Guest datsun75
I finally got this 350sb almost finished. I have double hump heads (1.94/1.50) on with 270 adv.duration comp cam with lift of .470., block was bored 40 over and I installed cast flat tops. Edelbrock performer RPM, with Holley 600cfm carb. I cant wait to see how this mouse runs. Just an update guys I appreciate the help and suggestions yall have given me so far. My datsun is just begging me to hurry up and drop the motor in. If anybody wants to throw hp numbers at me on this type of setup feel free. Im open for suggestions and information.
DavyZ
The combo looks great so far, but what compression ratio are you shooting for with this setup? I'll be plenty fun with a CR between 9:1 and 10:1 Davy
Guest datsun75
I dont know what my compression will be. With the flat top pistons and 64cc chamber heads I was guessing between 9.5-10 or so on compression. I dont know the history of the heads so they may have been milled some before. DavyZ
Then the engine will have sweet power for a Z. I don't have a program for computing hp, but I know you must be at 350 hp or higher. Sounds like a very very fun motor in a Z (cam is good for streetability and excellent torque) It'll be a blast to drive Davy
Guest Anonymous
Got those block hugger headers with good breathing exhaust and you should be about 340-350hp, a good blast!!!
pparaska
Desktop Dyno says 403 ft lbs at 2500, 295 hp at 4500. Looks like it needs more cam! OR better heads. If you want those kinds of numbers (mid 300s hp). That will be a very torquey motor around town but will give up at around 5000 rpm the with that cam. With the Comp cams Xtreme Energy XE274H (hyd flat tappet, 12-246-3) I get 397 ft lbs @ 3500 and 320 hp @ 5000, that with a 750 carb. I used the published 462 double hump stock head flow numbers that you can find at www.chevyhiperformancemag.com
Guest datsun75
Well, I guess 300hp will have to do for now. I had thought about the Comp 292 cam but then I would have needed the torque converter I think. Im sure this motor will pull me around at a high rate of speed Im not used to and thats what counts. I have plenty of WS-6's and SS's to mess with here and hope I can do something with them. If not it's back to the drawing board. Thanks for running the numbers guys. Do yall think I should use a bigger carb or just get bigger jets in the Holley 600. I have no idea what jets come in it anyways.
DavyZ
Thomas, that engine should be plenty to deal with the other cars in your neighborhood--don't worry about hp, since your engine makes sick amounts of torque anyway according to Pete!! You'll have problemos just getting it to hook...but when it does, LOOK OUT Davy
blueovalz
Where can this "desktop dyno" be acquired. I've only guessed on my output, and would like to know if this is a fairly accurate representation of the actual torque (yeah, I know, it's a tough question)
Tim240z
Terry, It is a Mr Gasket product, so most Mr. Gasket outlets or Summit generally has the best price, however, after you factor in the S/H fees, it might not be. Summit's price Or here's Mr. Gaskets page or directly to the DD2000 main page Tim
pparaska
Check out the Mr. Gasket page for it - they have bundles that allow you to buy other stuff at a discount (Cam disks, Desktop dragstrip, etc.) many times.
Kevin Shasteen
When you're ordering your Dyno program...make sure you buy the Dyno 2000 & do not "REPEAT-DO NOT" but the old/outdated Desktop Dyno. I finally met up w/a buddy that had Dyno 2000; I was very impressed . That & Drag 2000 or any of the other programs mentioned previously should be everything you'll need (except for the actual car!). Needless to say, I now have both those programs. Kevin, (Yea,Still an Inliner)
