rossman
So I'm getting a strange sound coming from the rear of the car when accelerating hard from a stop. The best I can describe it is an oil can pop sound "BONK, bonk." Best I can tell it only happens on hard take-off so it seems torque related. I checked under the car and nothing is noticeably loose. My car is a highly modified '72 240z turbo with a z31 lsd, 280z mustache bar with poly bushings, RT front diff mount with a poly mount to the diff, Z31 CV's and shortened half shafts. Any ideas what this could be?
johnc
Check the front diff mount.
rossman
That's what I initially thought. I've checked it several times. It's all tight. It sounds like something is bending then popping back. I'm wondering if its the structure of the car.
johnc
Put a pry bar on the diff and move the nose up and down and the back side to side. See if you can duplicate the sound. Also check the transverse link and the transverse link braces. If you have a rear sway bar check it for binding. Also check to see if your front and rear springs are seated correctly.
