kevinz
Anyone running an ls motor without flares. I don't want to cut up my fenders unless I really need the extra tire width. Are you hooking up ok or will I regret not using flares.
kevinz
I will be running an ls6 with 4l60e trans. Should be about 400 rwhp. R200 clsd.
Zfan1
No flares, running a 275/50-15 MT drag radial, scrapes a little sometimes.
rags
255/35-18 on 350Z track rims. No issues.
RebekahsZ
My tire recommendation depends on the usage, and I want to give you really specific advice. Are you street driving, autocrossing or drag racing (or trying to do everything with one tire)? What rim specs do you have?
kevinz
its just a street car. Almost never drag strip. I'm going to go with 17's or 18,s
kevinz
I want to get as wide as I can but without cutting my fenders. Also have coilovers. And I'm going to lower some.
kevinz
Something like this car
RebekahsZ
Ok, thanks. I have no opinion on street tires-too many different options to consider.
BrandenZ
Keith what do you think about 245 r-comps, using the subi R180 cLSD, for autox and track?
RebekahsZ
Pm me, this isn't my thread.
ktm
I will be running an ls6 with 4l60e trans. Should be about 400 rwhp. R200 clsd. My build is nearly identical: LS1, 4L60E, R200 3.70 CLSD. I have 16x8 wheels with 245/40 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s. They are a great street tire, especially when warmed up. First generally spins if you really get on it from a stop, but then it hooks in second with just a chirp. My old tires would spin in 1st, 2nd, and the beginning of third. kevinz
Nice car ktm. 16's look really good. It's good to know that you can still hook up pretty good without wider tires and flares. I really hate to cut up my fenders.
ktm
You can go even wider than mine if you have coil overs. There was a member (Clifton) who had 275's without flares, but it requires the right combination of tire and wheel.
Phantom
With the right offset you can run 245/40-17's. Get an extreme performance summer tire with a tread wear rating of 200 or less. I can almost hold my LS1 (325 rwhp) with 225 width 300 tread wear tires. I'm running a 3.70 R200 LSD/T56/>S1
amuscato77
My build is nearly identical: LS1, 4L60E, R200 3.70 CLSD. I have 16x8 wheels with 245/40 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s. They are a great street tire, especially when warmed up. First generally spins if you really get on it from a stop, but then it hooks in second with just a chirp. My old tires would spin in 1st, 2nd, and the beginning of third. Is this on stock suspension? Any rubbing or clearance issues? I'm trying to run 16x8s(0offset) on my 260z but didn't think I could fit 245s
Phantom
'0' offset won't allow any wider than a 225 cross-section tire. If you have coil-overs and about a -10 to -14 off set you could probably run 245's.
RebekahsZ
Good grief! It may be time to move this thread over to the suspension (tires) forum. Guys, the way you hook up with an LS is not related to tire size. It's controlled by your right foot and maybe your left foot. It's not size that matters, it's what you do with it! I used to do smoky donuts in a 40hp VW for goodness sake!
