Guest lamar32
Do you guys think it is possible to change the oil pan gasket without removing the motor, & what do you guys think about the chrome oil pans I talked to a couple guys @ a speed shop and the say they hate them they always leak. 73BOTIZ
I had mine off a couple of weeks ago to change a flat cam, and it came right off. I had to remove the starter and drop the exhaust, but other than that it was very simple. As far as chrome oil pans, I would stay away, because they usually are a thinner gauge metal and always leak. Dan Juday
Same as Mike. I changed my oil pump. Unbolt the exhaust from the headers, 6 bolts. Drop the starter, 2 bolts. The pan drops almost straight down. My 8 year old son helped me.

Guest Anonymous
It should drop straight down without hitting anything IMHO, much easier than if it was installed in a Chevy! Chrome pan, I don't think the chroming in general would cause the pan to leak, the problem (IMHO) is most of the chrome pans are cheap imported ROC parts and are to thin and poorly constructed and therefore leak. Personally I think its flash that no ones going to see and why should have to continue to polish something that is going to constantly be grimy unless its a show car and you do the whole mirror under the car thing. Chrome also will pit and rust. Heat is another issue, plating will hold in a bit of heat. Actually I'm surprised no one has made a pan with horizonal fins on the sides of the sump to radiate the heat out of the pan (maybe someone has?), couldn't hurt and it'd be free cooling of a few degree's I'm sure. Chrome as they say don't get ya home (some may argue it could get ya laid though, but my wife wouldn't appreciate that probably.. ). Just a opinion from someone thats lazy about polishing things... *shrug* Regards, Lone
383 240z
Please look at the flange of the oil pan if it distorted flatten it with a hammer and a body dolly I do this to ALL trans pans where some hammer head figured that if it's leaking just tighen it down some more!!! if I don't the damn thing just leaks even with the new gasket and the proper tourque it is very simple to do just a few love taps from the gasket side of the pan and you are back in shape I like to use a 1.5 lb hammer and ong good whack over each bolt hole in the corners I use a peice of solid round steel that has been ground to the proper size Keith
