BlueZed
Hi allBought a 280Z, engine was in very good condition, after minor adjustments simply perfect.Did a small rebuild, car is running much too rich.Symptoms:lots of dark smoke from exhaust (I mean like freakin VW TDI meeting just with a single L28), black and wet spark plugs, big fuel consumptionWhat I've done during rebuild:new ignition, thermostat, all gaskets, fuel lines. I'VE ALSO SENT INJECTORS FOR RENOVATION. Before renovation- worst one had static dose 180cc/min, after they are 198-200ccDELETED: carbon filter, EGR valve and it's vacuum switching valve, vacuum line that goes to BCDD, dashpot (was dead anyway), somekind of vacuum/temperature switch that was between EGR and BCDD (it has bronze body, was screwed to this thingie that heats air regulator) LEFT UNTOUCHED: head, block, timing, oil pump, fuel pump, pressure regulator, air flow meter, throttle valve switch, wiringWhat We've checked so far:Spark is perfect.DISCONNECTING AIR FLOW METER: idle goes a bit up, less smoke at idle, but more on throttle.PLAYING WITH THROTTLE IDLE SWITCH: car reactsWhat I think may be worth checking:fuel pressure regulator. I need to buy pressure gauge and check pressure value. So after all of this- do you have ANY ideas what can be dead/wrong?
NewZed
The obvious one is the coolant temperature sensor. Are you really in Poland, or just goofing? http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/280z/ Engine Fuel, read the chapter. Also, you'll get better ideas if you are more descriptive than "playing". To some people that means hitting with a hammer,to others it's going through a complete calibration process.
Leon
Check to make sure you haven't accidentally swapped the thermotime and coolant temp switch connectors. That will cause a rich condition.
BlueZed
No goofing. Why are you asking? Good point- by 'playing' I meant unscrewing idle switch and rotating it. I've taken all of EFI wiring back on intake manifold (I've tucked it a bit during assembly). Dunno if this is original thing but coolant temperature sensor wire has bannana plugs half way through. They were disconnected. Reconnected everything, idles quite high, but no more black smoke. Seems like you guys have found a reason We will see after adjusting the rest once again, I'll let you know
NewZed
Just curious. Don't see many members from Poland. The banana/bullet connectors are stock. You probably adjusted things out of spec. trying to make it work with all of that extra fuel. Good luck.
