I plan on using a MSD 6A and a blaster 2 coil; what will I need to do in order to do the swap? The distributor in my 240 is really worn and I dislike the points all together. Guest bastaad525 Posted July 25, 2002 Share Posted July 25, 2002 That link gives some good tips but doesn't really tell the proper way to wire in the whole MSD, it just tells how to wire in the ZX distributor. I did this exact same swap myself... actually I dropped the whole L28 motor from a '80 280ZX into a '72 240, and also an MSD-6A and Blaster2 coil. Man what a pain in the butt. NO ONE seemed to know the correct way to wire everything to get the MSD to work. Anyways, I finally got it figured out myself, after many mishaps and two fried ignition modules (little black box on side of ZX distributor). Anyways, here is the link to the post I made at Zcar.com after I figured it out, with details on what wires go where: http://zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=287734&t=287734 Hopefully you kept all the little extra wires and parts that came with your MSD, you'll need a couple of them. The downside is I could not figure out how to do this mod and keep the stock 240Z tach working. Apparently the 240 tach is well known for being wired in some odd way, and many people swap it for the 280Z tach. I just bought an autometer tach and was done with it. I kinda like the autometer tach better anyways... looks cool sitting on top of my dash (in a kind of ricey way, maybe). Plus it's dead accurate and for racing it helps that it's closer to my line of sight with the road, I don't really have to look down to know when to shift. I would imagine you could extrapolate some of the HEI/Duraspark info where you can bypass the module completely and just use the magnetic pickup to fire the 6A is what I would try and do.
