383 240z
I'm thinking of getting the 18 cir. for non GM columns. This seems to be the on a lot of you guys are running. What if anything would you change with it. Are the leads long enough, Does the wire contour nicely, and does it go to the engine and gauges or is it just a body harness?? can I add on a guage and engine harness? If so does it just plug in or is it a cut and solder set-up.?? Thanks for the help I'm getting so close now it hurts!!!! by this summer I should be debugging this baby!!!! fl327
it comes with the wirign, and its not painless, it replaces everything, i used three kragen fuseboxes together to create a 18 circuit box and i joined another one to it for a spare for a tottal of 24, and got a ton of different guage wire, different connectors, and solder. i now run three primary boxes with all kinds of booby traps for anti theft capabilitys, and an auxilary box that runs only the essential circuits if something were to happen. cost me 40.
jeromio
The painless kits are pretty nice. The wire is all fuel safe insulated, multicolored AND there are inkjet labels so it's sort of self-documenting. You rip out all of the existing stock wiring. Then you find a spot for the painless fues box (which unfortunately does not come with headlight relays) and then run the wires from there to their various end points (guages, lights, ign switch, battery, etc). I haven't done this on my Z (yet), but I've done it on my truck. There was plenty of wire with the kit. It took me about a weekend to do it. Peternell
The 18 circut I put in my Chevelle was a complete harness. One group of wires runs to the rear (tailights, fuel sender, fuel pump....), one grouping runs to the engine compartment (headlights, solinod, coil, fans....) and one is to the gauges, radio and ignition switch, power windows...) The wiring is for the + side and you must supply and route the grounds. One harness does it all.
383 240z
OK then I should figure on a roll of ground wire, and some terminals. I was under the impression that another harness would be needed for the gauges etc. This is a good thing. I'll have to add headlight relays and a fan relay. Is there anything else that should be on a relay? I'm sure this question has been asked a few times I'm doing a search now. Keith
Guest Anonymous
Yeah, fuel pump... Regards, Lone
jeromio
My kit came with all the terminals and connectors. Wire ties too. You might wanna get some of that wire protector stuff - that corrugated tubing like stuff with the slit all the way down.
Guest bang847
wanst painless... in the process now.. but for a Z i bought the 18 circut GM harness on accident.. oh well.. only thing i didnt like is that it has to be mounted next to the driver's left foot... maybe one more thing... the instructions were too stupidfied.. i wanted something a little more technical...
