Guest zfan
Was wondering what would be the best way to clean my distributor? It is kind of dirty, should I just buy some electrical spray cleaner and go at it or would that not be a smart way to go at it as I really have never cleaned one up before. Also what gap should I go with on my 355 sbc. I am also using a MSD 6a box with MSD blaster coil. I just swithed plugs to NGK's 5 series with the gap at 44 is that what most of you are running with that simular ignitition set up. Just curious. fl327
electrical cleaner is fine, 44 gap is pretty good, sounds like your ignition is pretty hot, you could go 50, possibly. ive run 45 with a stock hei and a 50k coil before with no issues, cant see why you cant go at least that or more. im sure somebody will chime in, but thats what i think. Guest empracing
be aware i just looked up the small block bible and is says not to exceed 0.050-inch cos the excessive seconday voltage needed to jump the wider gaps can dammage ignition componets. just a hint
Mike C
It also depends on what kind of ignition you are running. The capacitive discharge should be fine with large gaps, but the inductive discharge... I would run 45 and that gives you some "wear" leeway unless you are running true platinum type plugs (on electrode AND ground strap, most cheaper ones are just electrode, ground strap can still erode)in which case .050 should be fine with the MSD. If in doubt, always check with the manufacturer. I would think MSD has a FAQ on this.
