Guest eric-z
hey, I was at the salvage yard today getting a replacement light for my '81 280zx. I happend to glance into the toyota section and saw a turbo supra, I asked the guy who worked there about it and he said "ah yeah that '87 black one, it came in here about a week ago, the engine still runs and everything but we took the tranny out". I then asked him how much he wanted for it and he said he would take $400 for the engine. what do you guys think... 7mgte swap? I am pretty young but have access to my brothers gas welder so I maybe be able to make mounts and things like that. what would be involved in this swap? how much more do you guys think this would cost me(provided that I keep things stock or as cheap as I can)? Guest Zachb55
thats a certainly doable swap, probably no harder, if not much easier then an RB swap, and think of the benifits, you can get just about any part you want right here in our country, well its your decision, i dont know if i would go for it or not because i really have my heart set on the RB or 2JZ, but $400, thats a sweet deal.... I would search the forum if i were you, youll find just about everything you need to know with all the info on this site!!! -Zach
Drax240z
Well I'd try to line up a tranny first. $400 might be sweet, but if you can't find a tranny for cheap, then you aren't too far ahead. And you are delving into relatively unchartered territory here, so it will be difficult to ask for help from people, just beware that you may have to do a lot of your own engineering along the way. Other than that, go for it!
Clifton
R154 (turbo trannies) can be found for under $300 and are plenty storng. Get the ecu wiring and ecu as it will save you money on after market efi. With 550 cc injectors and larger AFM you can make close to 400rwhp on stock efi and turbo. There are many making over 500rwhp on stock motors http://www.supraforums.com

Guest eric-z
Is the R154 a manual or a automatic? how many speeds? I would rather not have an automatic. eric
Tony240ZT
I keep finding parts to bolt on right before I get the car on the road, and have to stop and bolt them on. Just got this SS header, so now I have to look around for a different turbo and oil/water line hookups. Should look nice and flow well though. Also want to make a different intake manifold to get my intercooler hosing all straitened out. Let me know if you need any advice on anything, I've answered a few questions on the board to others, so do search. Maybe you can do the swap cheaply, but I'm not a good example of that.
