Guest Anonymous
sure it would be expensive, but how about bmw's 333hp S54 plant in a Z? or an earlier bimmer I6?
Guest JAMIE T
I'd jump all over a M power plant for a Zcar. A good freind of mine has a '01 M3 that is bone stock and weighs 3400lb and runs 13.30's. Not to mention is a helluva track car(road race). It puts 275hp to the wheels. I can still hurt him in my Z28 though. 340whp Any other BMW 6 would be just a step sideways. It would still be a SOHC head.

All BMW 6's M or not are DOHC now. And I will say the 2.8 and 3.0L motors from the regular 3 and 5 series are phenomenal motors. And to be honest, the older M3 motor, the 96-99 3.2L's are cheaper and more practical if someone wanted a crazy swap. My 00 BMW M coupe put 220 to the wheels with 220 torque. If you are lucky, you can find one of those motors for 4-6k with tranny. However, for the same price, you can have a skyline GT-R motor as I do now. Expect to pay at least 10k+ for a E46 M3 motor,(the 300 hp one). M power, if you do a search of this forum, you will find a few posts about that motor and the older BMW motors. Good info in the posts about cost, etc.. -Bob
yo2001
The newest M3 has a motor problem. The rod and valvetrain doesn't last.
Guest JAMIE T
Thanks Bob, Yes my BMW info IS dated. Most of it comes from a friend who is into older(mid '80s BMW's) Thanks for clearing that up for me. Yo2001, My buddy with the '01 M3 knows of the problems, but he still hammers the hell out of it(as it should be) He lives on a dirt road and his car always looks like it just finished the Dakar Rallye. Thats my joke with him anyway. It looks pretty wicked with the dark blue paint and 19" BBS Motorsport wheels(when it's clean).
yo2001
hehehe, the way you should drive 300HP I just can't believe the problems the new M3 have. I just happy your buddy didn't get the bad ones. Or even if it is, extended warranty baby Can't wait for the V8 M3
