Easy TPI question

Recommended Posts

Currently I am having a 383 SBC engine built for my 75' 280Z. I plan on installing a TPI injection unit from a 88-92 Camaro/Firebird with an aftermarket programable ECU. Does anyone know if that TPI unis utilizes a fuel return line? I am curious because i plan on later installing a Venom nitrous kit and it calls for an a fuel system that doesnt have one. Any help or expertise in this area or on a Tpi swap would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

383 240is correct, A buddy has a vette we just did a 383 in and the stock with larger injectors was still no go above 5100 rpm. He dropped 2g and the runners and plenum and now its just some tuning but is a lot better already.IMO! b_hand.gifb_hand.gif

P.S. I like this Graemlin Dan.

That will solve most of the prob's but your original post didn't say you were upgrading icon_wink.gif . Tpi's still are great mid and bottom end but upper rpm's with the factory systems even with upgrades is still 6000 and under. The aftermarket systems revv far better with a slight drop in bottom end torque. In a Z who needs more bottom end anyway right?? malebitchslap.gif

OH and the techs at Venom Performance emailed me back saying that their system does actually work with EFI with a fuel return line and that the note about it on systems without one was because "supposedly theirs is one of the few computer controlled nitrous kits that will work with some of the newer cars that dont have them(i.e. Neon,Cavaliers,ect.).The reasonI like the Venom kit is that it is programmable and can set up to be a more linear powerboost type system. All of the TPI nitrous kits i have found so far are simple fogger systems that activate at full throttle. Well with the engine that being built full throttle would be a bit excessive for street use as it is, add some NO2 and i would be sure to break some driveline parts. Also i have found a few complete aftermarket kits in the 1500-1800 price rance for a complete TPI kit. Do you think that it would be better/cheaper to go with one of those kits versus modifying a boneyard OEM unit (aftermarket manifold,Runners,ECU,Wiring harness, throttle body). Once again thanks for your input thus far
