Guest Anonymous
I still have the L28 motor in it heres my problem my car runs fine when its cold and hits on all 6 Cylinders then when I drive a little while it heats up and it wont hit on all the Cylinders I had a Return line clogged so it was building Hi pressure and then blowing all my gas Lines turned out to be inside the gas tank anyway I unclogged the return line replaced all the fuel lines that was all said and done I was wondering if this could have missed up my Fuel Pump? and its not sending enough Fuel to my Injectors thus causing it to Miss on Cylinders I Already replaced the Injectors Or Could It be a Water Temp Sensor? I have heard the if the water temp sensor is out, when the engine warms up it sends something wrong to the ECU and then causing it to miss on Cylinders. Well Let me know if im right on all this stuff, and if not what do you think is causing it to miss?
Lockjaw
If you had a clog and it backed up to the injectors, there are screens in the hose to them that could have accumulated some trash too. Also the fuel pump has a filter in the inlet that could be clogged up as well. I have never heard of or seen anything related to a temp sensor cause some of the injectors not to fire. You could have a head temp sensor problem make the car run to rich, but it would affect all injectors, not some. I would take the injectors off the fuel rail and make sure they are clean, but I would check the filter in the inlet of the fuel pump first, its easier.I would also run a can of fuel injector cleaner or two thru the engine and see if that helps. JKDGabe
I once had a 454 that did that, it turned out that the heat interfered with the spark plug wires. How long has it been since you changed them?
Guest Anonymous
I just did a Tune-up on it and it still does it. My fuel pump went out on it so I got one today, I am going to see if thats whats been causing it to do the hole time. thanks for your post
Guest Anonymous
Should I Put some kind of heat Sheild stuff around my spark plug wires? I have a header on it if that matters. It Runs Fine when its cold but as soon as it heats up it runs bad.
Drax240z
Don't worry about heat on your wires... They are on the opposite side of the engine as the exhaust. Might be a problem on V8's but not likely to ever be a problem on an L series... I'm guessing you are suffering from a bit of vapour lock... since the Z's are somewhat notorious for it. Check all fuel lines, fuel filter etc. If you are not getting fuel circulation this will absolutely make things worse. If the clogs in your lines were caused by a rusting gas tank (another common problem) chances are that they are clogged again. Drain your tank, check for rust, etc. As a last resort you may want to try putting heat shielding on your FUEL lines, (shiny side out) to reflect some of the radiated heat in your engine bay away. I've had this work before.
