fl327
i guess this is related to charging problems, but it has more to do with an alternator swap. i run the 83 turbo alt in my 75, which had a mechanical regulator i think. well anyways here the weird part, my charging system is good, its just that it reads 15.1 volts when i hit excite rpm when i checked today with multimeter. i do know the alt i have is internal, the wiring plugged right up from part of 75 harness, i am charging, but it is a little high. here are some more symptoms. my charge rpm is kinda high, like 3k or so. it will stay charged even at idel then but it reads kinda high, im scared im gonna blow this alternator or mess up my charging system, any ideas guys?? thanx
johnc
Alternators will normally show up to 16 volts when charging.
Dan Juday
Yup, like John said, that's normal. A good alternator should put out at least 14 to 14.5 vdc.
