ok well i got the car running and the clutch will shift properly < i think >

when ever i let go completely of the clutch pedal the car will jolt and die. < go in gear fast for a second then cut off > if i leave the pedal down some it will go in gear correctly.

any ideas? it is a 1978 280Z with stock engine and 5speed. i need help because i am trying to get this to work durring christmas break.

thanks

check the pedal height, should be about 8.5 inches from the floor, may take some adjsting, also check the pedal height spec in the haynes book, i may be off.

also check to see if master and slave cyl are bled and operating correctly.

anything else than that, and man the trans gotta come down....

the slave is new, the master is just rebuilt....both have been mitivac bleed and i plan on pedle bleeding when my friend can help.

would low/old gear oil cause it to die in gear? as in too much drag when the clutch is fully released in gear?

i got new trans fluid but i dont want to put it in and then have to disassemble the tras later and loose the fluid.

well it seems that i am just an idiot and need to learn to drive a stick.

due to my lack of knowledge on how to drive a stick i wasnt giving it any gas. my friend told me i had to give gas.

well it goes, a little rough but i think the trans fluid change will make it better.

Don't feel bad. We all had to learn. Luckily some of us have people that teach us before we ruin too many clutches :D . I taught my little sisters (twins) how to drive a car and a manual one at that. They bought a nice little 73 Celica (loved that car) and I spent many an evening in the parking lot teaching them how to drive a stick. Starting on hills, the whole nine yards.
