280Zone
Right now I am calling it a yard ornament. I hope it actually becomes a car someday. Did you build a hardtop or a convertible?
Guest Anonymous
Nate, I see that car of yours every day and it is a Porsche with a hood hinge problem.Hey I have a V8 setting in the FatBoy's engine compartment.

chelle
Hey all, remember me. Chicago area girl with Alpha-1 GTO on a 77 280z chassis, currently converting to RHD just to be different. Business partner/friend has a Alpha-1 on a 78. I'm trying to convince her to go with a SBC, but with me trying to squeeze in a BMW 12 she will probably try and outdo me lol. I also have been progressing slowly on a puckett body on a 62 250 chassis. there are some pics here of both her car and mine and the Lamborghini we have restored together here: http://members.core.com/~sysadmin/personal/Urraco/redwhiteandblue.JPG http://members.core.com/48/A3/sysadmin/personal/garage.jpg I have build a few of these cars and have a pretty diverse background in all things car and computer related - and love to see other people's projects.. Maybe we could try and get something going for a gettogether of GTO replicas : ) Chelle
boatbum
Welcome Chelle - And once my car is ready to roll - hopefully in the spring I am all over some type of get together. John Washington has revised his site http://www.reactionresearch.com/automotive.html Let's hope he gets his molds back and restarts the VR!! I also have begun documenting my project at http://www.boatblender.com/cars/vr_project/vr_project.htm If anybody has sites they want linked, I am happy to add it and will bribe John to add it as well. SpeedRacer
Thanks Chelle and yes, I think it would be great to get all the GTO replicas together. It would be fun to meet each other, compare cars and stories. I'd suggest somewhere in the middle of the country to make the driving easier. BTW, here's a new current picture and a couple of old shots of my car. It pays to have someone that knows what they are doing with a camera take the pictures! http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=236622
Guest pcc
At last I get to bring this discussion back to the fore. Add me to the list of GTO kit builders. Am expecting delivery next Monday of the first Vello Rossa out of the molds since John's triumphant return to the business . I've been a pain in John's side for at least the last 7 years, always "just about" ready to start my car, glad to finally be moving forward. I have a '75 280 lawn ornament waiting for me to make room in the garage to start disassembly. I can't give much detail about my plans yet since they are not firm and my job has me really running right now. My dream is LS1/T56 motivation through a R200 LSD, coil overs and disc brakes all around and the fattest tires I can fit. I live in Northern Indiana where Lake Michigan changes the weather faster than an Indy pit stop, so a soft top will eventually be a must. Guest Anonymous
Glad to hear John is getting some use out of those molds again. The VR may prove to be a timeless innovation, just needs another and newer donar to fit on. ATTN: John Washington: Rory Bateman has produced about 35 Tomahawks total and has painstakingly developed 3 sepaerate molds for the 240-280 Z, the 280ZX and the 300ZX. Get on a 300 ZX Vello Rossa kit and keep the ball rolling
Guest 250z
I'll add my self to this list as well although it looks like I am the only one not from the US. I have been building a Classic Revival kit for a year now, I am about 2 weeks away from painting the car after which I will drop my RB25DET engine in send it off to get it wired to the dash and then have the interior done
Guest Daddyrick
Guys, I am building a GTO from Stable. LS1 and t56, Dayton knock-off wire wheels,6 point cage, and replica dash and gauges. Modified hatchback to look more like original GTO with fuel filler at back rather than on fender. Bought a limited set of original style hood pins from Jim Simpson (great guy to deal with), expensive but worth it. Hope to finish this year. Had to put project on hold while I finished my 4x4 S10 with 350 fuel injected Vette engine. It has been a while since I have logged on the HybridZ and saw this posting. Thought maybe Ferrari was clamping down on my dream car. Out for now, Daddyrick
John Washington
I've been trying to do a little bit of work on the GTO Replica Register site ( www.gtorr.com ). There is also a new contact form there and I'd love to have info from you guys on your cars.
Lewis Maudlin
OK, I am building a Stable Autoworks GTO with a 350 chevy conversion. This will be my second chevy powered datsun. I hope to get to work on it once the weather warms up.
Guest Anonymous
Just Found this Forum....GREAT I have an ARIZONA Z GTO bodied '73 240z with a 1962 SBC 283ci. Who knows where these molds were splashed off of?? EVERYTIME I walk past this car (1000 miles a year) I smile. So sweet and sexy. I built it , wow, 10 years ago. My donor had the V8 in it. Old style installation of V8 that I would like to remount. The paint and body are ready to be freshened. Mainly where the Fiberglass meets the roof. The door skins are still perfect. I used BlueRays suggestion of Marine epoxy. The Arizona Z has the One Inch body piece between the leading edge of the Hood and the "Sugar Scoops". Not as nice or strong as the Kits with a 6' or so piece. I got pictures I will put, later.
Wagz
Welcome Patrick. We can always use more insight from guys who have done the conversions already. Can't wait to see some pics of your GTO.
jbeech
My pal TrickZ and I flew to Fresno to buy my GTO rebody. There are pictures at http://www.modelsport.com/gto to include a couple of pics of Speed Racer's car just to show a real nice job which I am striving to udate mine to (thanks to SR, I've located a set of those snazzy valve covers)! This past week I received the various doodads I ordered to increase the realism, i.e. paint code plate, various stickers, etc. from http://www.italiancarparts.com - but I do have a question, where are you guys getting those nift Scuderia Ferrari shields mounted on the front fenders? I've found some beautiful examples but they're only 4 inches high while those I have seen look to be about 7 or 8 inches high. Common guys, fess up! SpeedRacer
I think a few guys are going to be upset that you managed to find the last set of those valve covers! Sorry, forgot to let you know that you can get those fender shields here http://www.image-homes.com/Adv.html That is a great looking GTO! Good luck with it. John Washington
It's slow going on the GTORR website at the moment. However, Hank Black and Evan Friedman are the first two members to fill out the GTO Replica Owner Information sheet and I've managed to post Evan's information. Click through to his page from the gallery: http://www.gtorr.com/Gallery.htm I'd love to have more info from the rest of you, but can't promise speedy posting right now! Thanks in advance! John Washington
Vinh, I meant to reply to you directly about that car when you emailed me last week. I kind of lost track of who sent that photo to me...getting old I guess! Anyway, I believe that is a Nalle kit...pretty rare bird. Eric Neyerlin has more information on it, I think. I'll email him and let him know it's being discussed.
VinhZXT
John, My friend knows the history of these Cobra kit cars. According to him they are pretty rare too . He said there are about 7 or 8 of them around only and the guy who made the kit died awhile back and my friend lost track of who's getting the mold. He said the complete kits could cost up to 6 or 7 grand. I fell in love with this kit the first time I saw it in his garage.. Eric Nyerlin email me a few times before about these kits but I was busy and couldn't get back with him with the info he needs. Maybe this is the place to start finding out the history of these kits since my friend has been too busy with work and family.. Please let me know if you find out any thing .. Thanks Vinh
