David K
Yesterday (sunday) I was on the way home from taking the lady to work. Right outside of her job, i stop at a red light. A little civic pulls up. My Z idles loud, so this kid revs me. The light turns green and we are inching across the intersection to see if the other one jumps. He starts taking off fast right in the middle of the intersection. i took off after him and trailed right behind him. We hit the freeway onramp and took the curves and sped on to the freeway. I was tailgating him at about 100 then i downshifted to 4th and gunned it. I pulled ahead of him and his car was screaming. I backed off at over 125+ because i was way ahead of this kid. I hit my exit and pull off and he pulls off too. At the stop sign it splits into 2 lanes. One turns left and one turns right. He asks "whats in there?", and i say "its pretty near stock". He starts pulling away and yells "your car is still a peice of s-h-i-t!!!!". O well, if you cant earn their respect, JUST SMOKE THE SHIZZLE OUT OF THEM!!! Guest livewire23
I had a three hour conversation yesterday with a friend who kept telling me how shitty my cars are. he went on and on about how slow my (daily driver) prelude is, and how heavy it is, and how its got no potential. Then he went on to say that my Z is a piece of shit, and its gonna break, and its gonna cost me bank to fix, and blah blah blah. And the cars he was comparing my cars to were $40,000 luxury cars and stuff like that. And he was comparing my prelude to a 3000GT (not the VR4). Talking about how 3000gts are crazy fast and could smoke the prelude. I'm not to sure, those things are heavy... But the fun part was, when I got down to it, I remembered that he drives a 97 ACCORD EX!!! Not even the V6 accord. And he payed $10,000 for it because its got 10k miles. If I had $10,000, I could BUILD him a car that would get better gas milage and still be faster. so then he started talking about wind resistance and me needing to lower the Z to go fast, and how ABS is modelled after F1 drivers.... It was quite an interesting discussion. All the BS flying back and forth. stupid kids. You're civic driver reminds me of this guy. He probably had several thousand sunk into that engine and was embarassed by a near-stock Z. haha, good for you!

TimZ
and how ABS is modelled after F1 drivers.... It was quite an interesting discussion. All the BS flying back and forth. Ummm... So he was saying that his Accord didn't have ABS. It was illegal in F1 in 1997. Or was he saying that the Accord's ABS was modeled after the F1 drivers themselves? Also pure bullshit. ABS is a commodity. Honda buys it from the lowest bidding supplier, just like everybody else.
ratedZ
haha, that's too funny man. It's eve funnier because they have no clue what the hell their talking about. Like the other day for example, I just got done installing the TurboXS Dual Stage boost controller and I was about to go out for a spin to see exactly where my boost sits. I get about a block away from my house and I see these rice boy's hanging out in the front of their house. I drive by slow as I don't speed through housing areas and I just happened to hear one of them say slow POS. I wasn't in a good mood that day so I busted a U turn and pulled up next to them and I reply "Did you say something about my car?" They just looked and stared but not S talking. Then I finally said, it's slow huh, any of you wanna race agains my POS (while revving the motor)? Of course no one said anything and basically gave me the evil eye lol. So I just shrugged my shoulders and took off as I said "thought so"....ahhhhh that felt soo good lol. I know it doesn't prove poop but man I bet they almost pooped their pants when they saw me bust a U lol. The looks on their faces as I confronted them about that smart ass remark was priceless. Guest livewire23
dave, i hope you bust one of them crazy Us with the tail sliding around and the car all "outta control". LOL, that woulda shown em... As of yet I still havent gotten my prelude to bust a U like that, and I dont think any Honda driver can do it on demand.... tim, I think he meant that ABS is patterned after the way F1 drivers brake their cars. I then explained to him, that any good driver would pump the brakes when they lock up. They told him that sometime during driver's ed... Only thing is, ABS pumps em before they lock up, and faster than any human could pump. But he insisted that it was based upon "pro driving habits" or somethin like that. fl327
if i had abs i would be happy, but i dont, so whatever, but i got turbo though i basically let the honda guys talk their crap, im gonna talk mine, every car group thinks their cars are the ultimate thing to happen to a car, you have to dont you? i dont even race fwd's anymore, none of them has proven themselves worthy over four years of racing them, best one ever got was two cars back when my clutch wouldnt grab-and he was turbo b16a livewire, why dont you get that turbo operation down and really show em whats up? man i hooked mudge up, and hes on his way to turbo power-SO CAN YOU. Guest livewire23
I believe im gonna go 7MGTE, but at the moment Im really looking into swapping the h23 out of my prelude. Im thinking of doing something REAL original with a mitsu turbo engine. After that, the Z will probably be going up for sale to fund the buying of a supra, and either a 240 or 280 body.... TimZ
tim, I think he meant that ABS is patterned after the way F1 drivers brake their cars. Only thing is, ABS pumps em before they lock up, and faster than any human could pump. But he insisted that it was based upon "pro driving habits" or somethin like that. I thought maybe that was what he was saying, and my comment on that still stands. If you ever see an F1 driver pumping his brakes, he is most assuredly 2 seconds or less from death. The only reason I can think of that he would be doing such a thing would be if one circuit of his brake system had failed, and he was trying to regain pressure in the other. F1 drivers are experienced enough to stay out of situations where the brakes are hopelessly locked. If they do get into such a situation, something has gone terribly wrong. ABS system developers do extensive modeling and development around the characteristics of the tire, and the relationships between the amount of slip a tire has and how much force it can generate in any given direction. They try to control the slippage of the tire and keep it at the point where it is providing maximum braking force. While to some extent, an F1 driver tries to do the same thing, the methods that they use are not very closely related. I can assure you that nocody sat down and said "Gee let's model how an F1 driver applies his brakes and just copy that".
fl327
just put the H22a vtec head on that h23, youll have a fun car on your hands.
Guest Mr. Big Business
Maybe he was talking about "threshold braking" which means that you are applying the brakes as hard as you can without actually locking up the tires, since that's when you are braking as hard as you can. That's kind-of what ABS does, since it cycles the brakes when it detects a tire locking up. I don't think that's anything limited to F1 though, since pretty much any automobile (or motorcycle, I assume) racer should be doing the same thing. henry
Guest livewire23
but ABS doesnt force you to practice threshold braking, it just makes it easier if you already do that. I have ABS on my prelude, and i still brake just like I do in the Z. fairlady327: I didnt want to sink more money into the lude, I was just going to do the engine swap because someone offered me a good price on my H23. Know a good place to buy h22s cheap? rebuild neccessary is ok...

Guest livewire23
you think you can get a h22 prelude clip, and for how much?
Moridin
When I actually had the Z running for a week, I was running it on the freeway on ramps to see how it would handle a little gas. I pulled into some parking lot, one of the guys had the nerve to say "Somethings wrong with your muffler." He was driving one of those stupid Cadillac Escalades. I just said nice SUV, and ran the the motor up into the high revs. Some people don't know what the hell they are talking about. Its called a full length header and Borla exhaust with Mikuni's up front. Ignorance with automobiles just pisses me off.
