Surging thur 1-3 gears

My 83 ZXT has started surging reel hard 1st thur 3rd gear, real hard when excellerating in 2nd gear! Just changed oil pump and Re-adjusted the timing. Could the air flow meter be going bad?or Fuel pump? It has no power!

it gave me hell!

a datsun specialist told me the car wouldnt even want to run if it was the air flow meter

where is your timing at? My car would statter when my timing is too retarded.

Sounds good to me, because timing will definately cause that, and since you played with it recently thats your first thing to check.

if you messed with timing too much it would shut you out when it comes time for boost, like you were hitting some kind of special rev limiter. unless you are running aftermarket efi, then ??? do you mean surging as it will rev up in those gears but go nowhere-check your piping, fuel pump would stutter more than surge, an air leak sounds like whats going on- i think..

Something I noticed is the exhaust note has Changed???

Instead of sounding like a miss or stumble every several rotation

now it sounds like every other at Idle?
