Guest zfan
Ok First of all I now know my Edelbrock rpm heads suck but Im stuck with them for now! Was wondering if you could tell me what kinda of numbers you come up with on this build I just finished: sbc 350 four bolt 30 over steel crank eagle rods 10.34 to 1 hyper pistons comp cams xr288/roller cam, duration at .050 is 236/242 lift is 520/540 with 110 lobe sep. Rpm heads (straight plug) 2.02-1.60 with comp cams springs. Victor jr intake holley 750 double pumper Hooker super comp headers 2 1/2 dual exhaust with two chamber flowmasters Msd pro billet distributor and msd 6a with blaster 2 coil. 1.52 roller rockers Pete Jackson gear drive Grumpy would appreciate it if you could run numbers and give any other suggestions for improvement besides heads. Oh Tranny is 700r4 vette with 2400/2600 b&m stall. 3.54 gears and 235/60-15's. thanks again zfan..Mike
grumpyvette
thats a great combo! youll have about 475hp/440 tq which is about the max possiable with those heads, I doubt theres much you can do to improve it.

grumpyvette
javv yes you can get the same power with the same parts but if you use CANFIELD 223cc heads or AFR 210cc heads and stroke your engine to 383 the power will jump to about 500hp and 467ft lbs
Guest
how do i stroke it out to a 383? jav240z ("I-6DOES NOT A SUPERCAR MAKE")
nullbound
that is a great combo. but, edelbrock performer rpm heads don't suck, man. i am a huge fan of canfields, myself. that's what i have on the engine in my car. and i think they are superior to edelbrock rpm heads, but, i think it is important to stress the note made by grumpyvette on the performer rpm/canfield thread: performer rpm are more for street/strip applications and canfields are more on the side of race heads. it's easy to compare numbers with race-style heads and note which numbers are superior. however, we are talking about z cars on this forum. is 475hp not desirable? anything over 400 hp in a z-car is a SERIOUS machine, canfields or not. and for 25 more hp/27 more ft-lb of torque, i'd say keep the combo you have as is, especially since it is already built. you'll be plenty happy the first time you put your foot down. pparaska
Ditto. I'd much rather have your Edelbrock RPMs than my ported 461 iron heads.
Guest
still have not told me how to stroke a 350 '30 over to a 383 thanx jav240z ("an I-6 DOES NOT A SUPERCAR MAKE)
pparaska
'30 over means it's been bored 0.030" over the stock 4.00", so it's 4.030". With the stock 3.48" stroke crank, that makes it a 355 cubic inch engine. Stroking it to a 383 requires a "350 mains" 3.75" stroke crank. Some people use the 400 small block crank, with the main journals turned down to "350 main bearing" size, but the new cranks for building strokers are getting pretty cheap and are available with the 350 main bearing journal size brand new. A bored 350 block, to .030" over bore (4.030" bore) with a 3.75" stroke gives you a 383 cubic inch motor.

Guest Anonymous
Ok, about how much does this package cost? Assuming you are starting from scratch. Also, given the power to weight ratio, I can see how 400 hp in a z is serious, but what sort of performance times (0-60, 1/4) are we looking at for this 475 hp package? (Assuming street tires, wide as possible without flares, etc.) Thanks in general for this forum, guys. I havent started the 75 280 yet, but this forum will be invaluable when i do. grumpyvette
with a (Z) weighing about 2600lbs 475 hp ought to get you close to 11.1 at 124mph the engine can be built for $3500-$5500 if you have a good 350 block,(plan on spending about $4200-$4700 average) depending on deals you get on the parts (think EBAY for intake/carb)but buy cams/heads,ETC NEW because theres just too much chance of getting used junk any other way and who does the work.(you or an engine builder) has a big effect on total cost too.
